If you purposely manage your handicap, you’re a cheat. Just like using a shoe wedge or putting your ball couple of inches in front of where it was marked. You’re cheating yourself and even if you win a comp or a tournament, it has little value.

Having said that, some genuine high handicappers occasionally play well and shoot 45 points or over so I can understand that.

I had 43 then 45 points as a visitor to Pacific two trips in a row, recently, with a 42 at Wynnum the day after. Took out the comp on all days, and am the opposite of a handicap cheat: I am genuinely embarrassed by my handicap.

Sometimes inconsistency means that 20 points or 45 points are always an option. My calcs say that I average 32 points, but the scores vary wildly with three scores over 42 points and four under 26 points in the past few months.

The dash to single figures is not even on my radar at the moment.

That’s different henno. I’ve seen you play and you’re probably where I was a year ago. Some good rounds with some bad mixed in. I’m sure you’ll get more consistent as time goes and you manage your power off the tee.I’m talking about those you genuinely “manage” their handicaps to win events.

5 was always my target when young but snap hooks screwed that . I am on 6.4 at the moment have 5 non flag rounds dropping off , good chance to go for it but not sure if I really want to
