    Default Organising a Barnbougle trip

    Gents,

I知 about to start organising a Barnbougle trip for myself and a bunch of mates, for potentially the last weekend in September. I値l be doing thorough research myself (and I致e played both courses before on my own while in Launceston for work in Feb 2013), but just wondering if anyone has any general tips or experience with good transport providers or possibly tour operators? We値l be flying out of Sydney, and not sure yet if we値l charter a flight direct from Sydney to Bridport, or fly to Melbourne than charter a direct flight to Bridport. There will likely be between four and six of us, and probably flying down on a Thursday and flying back on a Sunday. On the Friday and Saturday we値l most likely do the all day rate for each of the courses, and we値l most likely be staying in the on course accommodation at Lost Farm and hitting that awesome sports bar pretty hard. Any advice anyone may be able to give would be most appreciated. Thanks, Justin.

I think you致e got it all covered. One of the beauties of BD is it痴 such a simple trip. Turn up, play, go home.

I've been there a few times in a group of 10-12 and we got a shuttle bus from Launceston airport to Barnbougle which was something like $60 per head.

The club will know more details.

Vortex Air's website says from $550 per person.

    https://www.vortexair.com.au/

Maybe the cost of flights direct from Sydney to Launceston plus the minibus charge could be cheaper.

It痴 likely cheaper but $100 each way to land and leave from on course and avoid commercial airports is worth it.

Vortex also have luggage restrictions and require you to use a pencil golf bag; if you turn up with a cart bag they will replace it for you (with their own stock) I believe @ no charge

You read my mind mate. Seems like most economical option is fly direct to Launceston and either hire a car (if we want one) or ride the shuttle bus. I知 organising it all myself, so I don稚 need to services of a tour operator or anything.

The Accom at LF is much more expensive than BD. I would hire 1 or 2 x 4 bedroom cabins next to the putting green at BD. Have a 10 seater minivan with a trailer and use it to go to the LF sports bar! Only 5 mins drive for a designated driver! Btw, the bar next to the fireplace at BD is a must for a wee dram at the end of the night.

I agree with Pete, I much prefer the accom at BD also. Gotta love the putting green straight out the back, makes for some epic chopping comps.

Man I need to get back there..

Our group got ridiculously cheap flights Sydney to Launceston (something like $75 each way) and we hired a minibus. Too easy. We stayed at LF and I thought it was great.

Watch out for baggage charges with Jetstar. Some fares don’t have baggage included and bringing a set of clubs can cost u a bundle.

Usually need to add baggage and an oversized baggage fee of $25 on top of that.

    Hi Fuzzy

We just got back from there last week, our second time. One of the best trips we致e ever done.

We flew into Launceston and hired a Kia Carnival, great car and worked out to be about $800 for 8 days - well worthwhile, and it swallows up luggage like you wouldn稚 believe. We stayed in Bridport in a holiday home, big 5 bedroom place, 2 lounges, modern, sea views, wifi etc, and it was $240 per night so $60 each. Perfect as you get your own space plus communal areas to hang out, BBQ etc. If you go that route, don稚 use Air BnB as it works out pricey, check out Aqua Property rentals in Bridport.

You池e going to love it, have fun!

    Hi Guys,

Just reviving this thread. Didn't end up going to Barnbougle when I started this thread in December 2018. But now looking to go later this year.
Can someone who has been to Barnbougle in late September tell me how manageable the weather might be? From what I can see, it'd typically be highs of around 15*-17*, so similar to a Sydney winter, albeit with a bit more bite in the wind.
How doable is late September? I'm thinking it wouldn't be so cold as to not be enjoyable.
    Thanks in advance, Justin.

Timah and I went down last year end of sept. 1st day at LF was cold and a little rainy (14deg). 2nd day at BD was sunny skies, but we teed off around 7.30am in 2deg. Warmed up to about 12deg at the end.

I literally got back last night from 3 days down there. Overnight low got down to 3ーC even this time of year. Not your September timing but we have been in March a few times now and temps range from shorts/shirt swim in the ocean, to beanies and hand warmers. All part of the experience.

    Particularly when doing 36-hole days.

September is a change season with Tassie’s most unpredictable weather. Still go anyway as both courses are amazing! Stay in the cabins at Barny Dunes. Much cheaper and a more golf trip feel. Food at the dunes clubhouse is just as good as the Lost Farm restaurant but also cheaper!

Looks like every man and his dog are planning a trip to Barny. Could get pretty busy down there and maybe some flared tempers.

By far the best time to go to Barnbougle is the winter. There is almost always less wind, the weather is pretty reliable, the course is nowhere near as busy, it's cheaper and it's still easy to play 36 holes in a day.
