Default Hit by a ball on course

This happened to me last week - in the face... by a random in my group [long story but accidental] - I was lucky that the ball missed my eye/teeth/nose and have been cleared of a fracture and any serious dental issues [although still can't feel my upper LHS teeth.]

Annoyed that the other golfer didn't bother even contacting me to check up anytime after the event.

But had an interesting conversation with the GM when I asked if I should drop my receipts [GP visit and Dental] into the office - he said I could claim through the club's insurance but I would be liable for the excess... [he wasn't sure what it was...] or as it is a civil matter I could pursue the other golfer for my costs - it was not a result I was expecting...

I assumed the club/insurance would cover any costs incurred in a golfer being injured on the course.

I really have no idea what the realities of this situation are - costs are not ridiculous - under $200 but that's money I'd rather spend elsewhere obviously - anyone else had a situation like this occur?

Not quite to the point of approaching the club about it, but it has happened to me. Probably 15 years ago I was playing with a couple of mates and one of them 3 putted, got angry and decided to cover drive his ball on the half volley off the green as hard as he could. Turns out he was a better cricketer than golfer because he middled it with a full swing and it cannoned into my face and split my lip. He shat himself when I spat out my chewing gum as he thought I was spitting a tooth out.

We went out on the piss that night. Good news is to make up for it he shouted my drinks all night. Bad news is unbeknownst to me he was also telling every girl I spoke to that night that my horrendous split lip wasn’t his doing and it was actually because I had syphillis....

    Who needs mates eh?
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Shouldn’t the other bloke pay the excess?

Ultimately I would think so. But as he isn't making the claim I assume it would have to be hopefully collected from him later...until I know for sure what the excess is, it may be more than I've spent.

No excess for the little read that I had.

Moocow, I hope it wasn't in the middle of a great round.

I sent an email to the knucklehead who hit me - in it I itemised my expenses and asked him for reimbursement.
He didn't argue the point and requested deposit details.
May end up being easily resolved, hopefully.

Email from knucklehead now not paying due to legal advice and not wanting to admit liability... Nothing ever simple...

It is the smart move on his part. Not everyone would have as simple intentions as you have in this instance.

He can make a payment while still denying liability. Can just call it a goodwill gesture.

    Update.
Lodging a claim through the club's insurer to recover my own expenses would result in a cost to me as much as what I had paid via what they do and don't cover and the excess.
I let the other golfer know this and said I would proceed if he would cover this cost / or just cover what I had spent originally.
Eventually he replies basically that he is not the guilty party and on principle he won't pay - it should go through his club insurance - he also says the insurers have contacted him to supply more information about the incident.
Good news I think - he has made a claim himself.
I contact the insurer and ask if I need to provide receipts/my own version of events - they reply that no claim has been lodged and they have never contacted him at any stage to ask anything...so now he's telling porkies...
I have now asked him to explain.
    Like a soap opera...

If he is not the guilty party, does that mean that you are according to him? At what point does it get too hard?
