Lyon doing some damage for sure. I thought Siddle bowled superbly and was very unlucky not to pick up a wicket.

I pulled the pin when the Poms were 7 down. It appears that I should have stayed up for another 20 mins and I would have seen the final wickets tumble.

    Great start to the series.

Though the trio were involved in half the dismissals, so not a complete fail.

Seems poms are already calling for the pitches to be doctored because they don’t have a decent spinner. If lords is a green top and it hasn’t rained is that cheating?

So good. We haven't been in this position over there since 2005. With the slope at Lords i'd be inclined to give the left handed Starc a gig and Pattinson a rest. They all bowled superbly. I'd keep Siddle in for balance. He bowls so well over there and could have easily had a swag of wickets. They wanted him to keep it tight and stem the flow of runs and he certainly achieved that along with the prized wicket of Root. He beat the bat umpteen times and bowled some greats pills. Siddle should have played more on recent tours and the selectors were well aware of this. He really balances out the bowling attack, certainly in English conditions. There's be no argument against an unchanged team but i think they will continue their horses for courses policy.

I'd really like to see Kwaka perform this game. He played a solid little dig in the second innings and got the scoreboard ticking but it'd be nice to see him go on with one. Same with Head, he got thru a tough period early and was looking great by the time he hit fifty. There should be no reason he can't ton up at some stage.

A green top will hurt them just as much as us I would think, Pom’s getting a little carried away given we were 8 for stuff all.

Aussies any chance in the 3rd match now Smith is out for concussion?
Do the 2 Wet & Dry brothers get another game after failing every game so far?

Would be surprised if they "rotate" both Hazelwood and Siddle, and I actually wouldn't be too shocked if they decided to retain the same bowling attack as Lords.

in terms of the match, the loss of Smith is massive (as everyone knows). Both teams have good bowlers, but the top of both batting lineups are equally appalling; if you were batting at no. 5 for either side you would get padded up right from ball 1. I commented last year on Bancroft's significant technique problems, and as this seems to not have improved at all, I would bring Harris in.

The outcome may just come down to which side has one of their leading batsmen (e.g. Root, Roy, Warner, Ussie etc) finally stand up and be counted with a big 100. Hope the toss of the coin doesn't make a difference.

Agree per Harris. Bancroft is a mess. It was fine against lesser bowling and he scored heaps of runs but against persistent quality bowling he's struggling. Apparently Pattinson is in for Siddle too. Siddles done a great job and could have had many more wickets.

Smith was the difference between the two sides with both being extremely brittle in the batting. Archer has probably bridged the gap a bit and is a ridiculous talent. Genuine pace, accurate, moves it both ways, awesome stamina for someone of his pace etc etc etc. I said well back reviews could be pivotal and the non review and dropped catch off Stokes cost us a decent chance to win the last game imo.

Really really worried about our batting without Smith. I hope we don't capitulate. Kwaka is a senior figure now and needs to turn those pretty little starts into big scores. Warner's never scored a ton over there in Tests and it would be nice to see him find his feet. More than one person needs to stand up.

Of course England have some serious batting problems of their own but the difference is less pronounced with Smith out. Hopefully Labuschagne continues to show promise that was a great dig the other day.

It's a fascinating Ashes series truth be told. I'd very much like to think we can win one of the last 3 to take the urn home.

Nice collapse and Archer flying high. Even our tail folded which is rare after the common top order collapse. When Smith comes back it sure won't be Labuschagne making room for him. Another very impressive gutsy effort. Hopefully he keeps getting better as a batsman.
