Is Bancroft sliding into the quite likely up for grabs second openers position? He has the grittiest style of the contenders and has been consistent since his re-entry.

It will be great for Australian cricket to have the previously banned trio back playing together.

England reward their ball tampering players with OBE’s , so what’s the problem , the three have served their time , a penalty no other country has imposed by the way . Be very interesting to see if the poms get reverse swing and we don’t yet again ,will they be called clever or cheats ?

    In white especially.

All jokes aside i can't wait. Fascinating series. We've got some fine bowling stocks, can our batting hold up enough? Smith and Warner will be insanely hungry for runs. Despite a fine average Warner never really looked set or in over there last time so it will certainly be the litmus test for him. Smith could certainly make a huge mark.

Agree , some good scores from Warner will go a long way to winning the ashes , they have to avoid the collapses , if they go with Bancroft I hope he is rock solid and scores well . Am fairly confident Smith will get runs . Biggest concern is the cheating poms and the pitch preparations . I haven’t forgotten the fungus pitch that only suited Derek Underwood

Getting dropped from the whole squad after making 180 in your last test has to burn.

And having an average over 40 in Test match cricket with 4 tons and 4 fitties in 28 bats despite the woeful sub continent stint and being flown into the South Africa cauldron straight after sandpapergate. He got big runs against the swinging maestro's in NZ too.

I thought Patterson might have near snuck in too. I don't begrudge Bancroft and Wade getting a gig tho. If runs truly count Wade could have been in some time ago and Bancroft has barely set a foot wrong upon resumption. He's got that extra bit of grit.

Pattinson and Kwaka guaranteed starters, Wade likely at 6 ahead of Marsh at this stage.
