We win. Amazing people can be critical of this result given the history generally and specifically. They've been away for four months, lot of bog average players and we retain the Ashes.

Australia probably played 'better' across the majority of the series, but if you had to pick a combined XI, there would probably be more English players in it. As such, a drawn series is probably not an unreasonable outcome.

At this point, you would have to think that any other half-decent Test team should put both sides to the sword. This may be New Zealand and Pakistan's best chances to win in Australia for a long time (although Pakistan have problems of their own). The Kiwis could arguably come into the upcoming series as an even-money bet, but Australia may have found some form against the weaker Pakistan team by that time.
I would be shocked if the Kiwi's match it with us. Our batting will be much better in our own conditions even if still brittle in places. Our bowling roster is extremely good. The Kiwi's would have to play out of their skin.

Brittle in places !! Only the openers, numbers 5 6 and 7 , that’s assuming manus is selected to bat at 3 , don’t forget he only got a go in this series cause smith got hit

I don't think Manus is exiting the team in a hurry, do you? How he got in matters not. Lets see what they do in conditions at home. Batting was extremely tough over there - for both sides.

You might be right but that’s what frustrates me the most , Warner , Marsh , Khawaja will only need one decent score in shield cricket early and langer will have them all in burns ,manus etc will be forgotten . Don’t know what starc has to do , if it was afl he and a few others would be asking for a trade to another country

"Manus" won't be forgotten in a hurry. He's put himself up as the second or third bat selected right now. Warner will get in on what's he's done and is still capable of doing. All the top bats have a bad lean spell. Who from the era could forget Greg Chappell? Look at the way many of them come back tho. Chappell, Richards, Taylor etc etc etc.

I'd like to see Burns given an extended run at home. Break up the cackies a bit. I would agree they should have played Starc or Pattinson last game particularly if Marsh played. Starc is now a tad behind Cummins and Hazlewood tho.

Great innings by Kwaka but 322 was a disappointing score after what had gone on earlier. The Vics have a scary batting line up but thankfully 5 of them have failed early.

Fascinating to hear the Victorians whinging about South Australia not declaring early after they had themselves piled up 600+ on an appalling pitch.

The Vics could have either encouraged their curators to learn how to prepare pitches with some life, or failing that, have declared early themselves and backed their bowling attack. Fully support the South Australians right to bat until they get first innings points, and perhaps the Vics might start to change their tactics.

Sadly, I can’t give the Victorian Test batting hopefuls any real credit for their performances on that abomination of a pitch. In fact, it might partially explain why Victorian batsmen can do well at State level, and then fail (see Harris, Finch, Maxwell etc) once they step up to the next stage on pitches that actually do a bit.

Good to see Paine getting his second F/C 100, but he looks to have injured a finger in the process. Clearly struggling to catch the ball cleanly with his right hand.

Starc blitzes the middle and back end of Tassie and Warner already out for 1. Kwaka failed yesty and Burns fell after getting a start. Head a duck earlier. Harris and Pucovski did get half tons tho. Not much resolved yet but a fair bit of cricket still to come before the 1st Test.

Starc 19 overs 4-20 match figures of 9-60. Kwaka a golden duck to go with his 2. Unfortunately Shaun Marsh 186n.o. which will have the selectors very excite i bet.

Bit worried for Burns after Pakistan scored a mountain of runs and he got a first baller but at 6-44 he probably hasn't done his chances enormous harm yet. Pretty reasonable Australia A getting pasted so far. Pakistan an easy 428 with two retired centurions.

We can only hope not. Pity Pakistan didn't make them follow on so someone could potentially put their hand up. Wade is certainly cemented in if he somehow wasn't. Maybe the selectors will think outside the box and shock us. Not much going on elsewhere tho.

How far out of calculations would Henriques be I wonder. So much calamity.
