One day in Melbourne
I am down in Melbourne for a family thing and have managed to swing 1 day for a game somewhere, will prob be a Thursday in late November.
Any thoughts? Thinking Dunes or National Old.

Highly recommend National Old. Probably the best course in Australia, just ahead of Royal Melbourne West.

I would go St Andrews Beach over the Dunes, any day of the week.
National Old is awesome

Have played National Old a long time ago and loved it, would be great to go back. Forgot about St Andrew's Beach also. Any idea what National Old is going to cost me?

That's what I said when that call was made to me .
PS - I think National Old is junk.
I think from memory, full visitor rate is $250 (though this was a while back). St Andrews Beach is a far superior course, and much lighter on the wallet. The upside to going to National Old is the use of Australia's best underground golf carpark and elevator. Superb!!!

Wow $250 is steep, would be alright if you could play it unlimited or one of the other courses.

It’s very undulating and not very forgiving; parts of it are spectacular but agree there are moments where I question its ranking
St AB is a better track, but if we were talking Nash Moonah that’s a completely different beast

Yes I wondered whether you were saying it tongue in cheek!
I have played Pebble Beach and walked Augusta and RM West sits in between in terms of condition. Barnbougle Dunes is also up there but short of them all. Kingston Heath is then behind BD in my opinion.
I have never played The National or StAndrews Beach.

It’s a shame the fairway and green grass contouring couldn’t transition better at RM, not sure if legend grass is best suited for that site but would need to play it more to gain a better opinion (only 6 games)

Haven’t played Portsea but have heard good reports, played St. Andrews beach is well worth playing but I played it on a warm calm day off the white tees so I think it’s easy . Yarra Yarra might be worth a look also

The National Moonah and Old are $120 guest rate as a Member's guest. I'd be happy to host you at either if the dates line up.

Wow, that is very nice of you. I only have Thurs 22nd Nov available to play. I have also been invited by Pete to play Kingston Heath, so now I need to decide between the two.. 🤔

No problems at all !
From what I have heard (having never played it), KH is one ripper track ... And as Spanner mentioned it's a lot more central to Melbourne travel time wise too. Having said that, if you decide you'd like to play The National I'll see what I can do to arrange it on that date with work ect
