    Default Balll addressed closer to heel of club face

    Took a quick lunch break and went down to the range for a hit with the JPX EZ;

    the head is a lot bigger compare to my previous irons, and suppose to be forgiving; However, I have noted I tend t hit it more towards the toe from center;
    During the practice, I decided to experiment a little by placing the ball more towards the heel during the address; and now I find I am hitting the center alot more than before, resulting a higher more penetrating ball flight

    With the previous smaller heads, i guess I never really noticed, but by doing this, it reminded me when I was a kid, i also used to address the ball more towards the heel.

    Is this a swing issue or is this an indication the lie may not be correct for me? (Have not done a lie adjustment yet on this set)

    I do have a slight out to in swing at the moment

    thanks

    no more upright if i'm not mistaken. I was hitting my Miura's towards the toe until i got them bent 1.5 upright and then i was catching the center allot more.

    I was having a similar issue with a wedge. Tourfit threw some lead tape on the head and it solved the problem.

    Since today's experiment was with a 7 iron only, I will test out the rest of the irons if they are all behaving the same using foot spray;

    If they are all the same, then will get a lie board to test out where I am hitting.

    For reference Adam Scott and several other Tour Pro’s do the same thing. It has been pointed out that Adam has a very slight move away from the ball on the backswing DTL but he flushed it. Luke Donald is another.

    I do this sway ALOT and I’ve been lining up driver off the heel for I don’t know how long.

    Well... with the new fitted 919HM, I seem to have same issue;
    placing ball in center on address, have a lower ball flight, while placing ball more to heel is resulting a more solid strike with a higher flight path.

    Tried it using a smaller head MP15 doesnt seem to have such issue... maybe this is exaggerated by the bigger club face?

    Not that I play, but I was doing this a little. I think Vijay was also one who did this.

    Do you really think it's a lie thing though? I mean if you're still flushing them at a slightly different address point, then it seems to just be delivery. I don't want to sound like i'm having a go at all, but maybe it's a mind thing and setting up a little inside is a good thing for you to get center strike. I don't think it's a bad thing to be doing, if that's what gets you good contact. Like some guys hovering a driver or grounding it.

    I did to the lie board test with my last pro; and he said the markings were only slightly off from center which can be accounted for my spike shoes on a hard carpet lie board setup. So, no it's not a lie issue for me.

    I am starting to embrace this ball position right now on setup until I try to change my swing again.

    Yeah i'd run with it while you're flushing them. Moving the ball across the face can help i think, even just mentally. I know when i got fitted my ball position was forward of centre and i thought it was slightly back. Now when i'm setting up it almost feels like i'm playing it off the inside of my back foot but it's in a good spot for my swing. Swing your swing, if that's setting up heel then so be it!
