    Default 2018 Champs Roundup

Another OzGolf QLD Champs in the books.

Huge thanks the Benno for all the work he does organising these and keeping tabs on everything. Once again an awesome job done mate, and well done on the win.

I enjoyed the weekend, despite struggling with my golf, and having to pull out of Friday's round suddenly.

Many thanks to my playing partners - Bluu Lefty and Timah who I didn't get to play with on Thursday, Bushy Lucastro and Marcel on Friday, BITS Bushy and PeteRS yestarday and Matty3jab, 3puttpete and Courty today. Thanks for putting up with my crappy golf!

Looking forward to the next one!

Go the ugliest putter in the world!

In all this I think we missed that Benno_R has become the first person to win the QLD champs more than once (2015 - 201.

    Congrats Benno, well done.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

I was talking about it afterwards. 14 years was a long time without someone winning it twice.

Solarman has won NAGA half a dozen times (including a couple before he joined OzGolf).

    Congratulations, BennoR

Congrats Benno! - just wondering if I've missed any chair stacking shenanigans at the last couple of Champs?

    Congrats Benno.

Did you win it with the clubs I sent over?

    Thanks mate.

The ie1's have been relegated for g30 at the moment (my iron play is shocking). Lucky my drives are so short I can hybrid into a lot of holes.

And being SundayHack is a rollercoaster. Naga, to champ, to Naga. It moves the needle!

No more chairs being stacked. But have you met Bushy?

I bought a gap wedge off Gumtree a couple weeks ago.

Arrived at the same house I picked your Irons from.

I’ve gone from blades to Mizuno MPH4s and I’m loving it.

Ha! That's quote the coincidence. My roster is killing my golf consistency at the moment though. I really want to go back to the ie1s though, they really work for me when my swing behaves.

Awesome weekend. Thanks to the guys that put up with my constant dribble over the four days, and extra thanks for putting up with what was some fairly ordinary golf at times.
Extra thanks for Benno for the hard work in organising it all; it was a top weekend that went off without a hitch.

    Personal memorable moments:

    - Bushy tipping a jug over his head on Friday night after wanting to wear it as a hat before saying "I forgot that was still full".
    - Bushy humping my head and walking across the tables at the same bar.
    - Bushy climbing in some random market person's van and sitting there like a lost kid.
    - Getting up hungover on Saturday morning for some red-eyed Henno ClubTech for Jono who wanted a shaft for his M1.

    Kooralbyn:
    - Jono's hole-in-one, of course. It never looked like missing. Then again, nothing he hit looked bad all day. What a flusher.
    - Having 24 putts.... on the back nine.
    - Shooting 11 over across two holes.
    - Raising the bat and having my second-worst score off the stick in history, but taking a 0.5 handicap chop.
    - Being in good company in that regard, with 7 of our 19 starters raising the bat.

    RQ:
    - Almost completely missing the ball on the first tee and shooting it off the toe and onto the next fairway.
    - Peppas three shanks in a row was a thing of beauty.
    - My three cold tops in a row was equally beautiful.
    - Jarred snapping his driver in the most unimpressive of ways. In his words "If I knew it was going to break, I would have snapped it over my knee."
    - The greens were tough at RQ; Even full swung wedges nipped off the fairway were lucky to get any second-hop razz. I didn't repair a single pitch mark.

    Pac Harbour:
    - Watching Matt3Jab stripe everything only to live up to his namesake on the greens (even trying out Matt4Jab on one hole).
    - Wiping a hole from 90m out in the middle of the fairway... three times.
    - Both Matt and I smoking driver down the last (go the Burners) hitting an easy wedge on and taking birdie and par respectively, with shouts of "Pleeeaaaase!" as Matt's birdie putt rolled towards the hole, followed by high-fives as it dropped for our group's only bird for the day. I am sure the people watching from the bar probably thought both of us just shot 40-something points the way we carried on. Maybe if you added our scores together.
    - Having both of our big drives down 18 absolutely dominated by Jarred who pumped his past us by a good 15-20m I reckon.

    Brookwater:
    - My cart partner Ferrins offering me a "coffee" on the first tee from a very suspicious looking thermos, then immediately after I knocked it back he turned and picked someone in the other cart (Marcel) as his partner in the bet.
    - Thankfully the effects of the Rohypnol must have worn off after 15 holes and thecollective and I were able to come back from 2 down with 3 to play to take the bikkies on the 18th.
    - Having two five-pointer putts very nearly go in, and having tap-in 4 pointers. 2-shot holes are robbery.
    - Smoking my 20* hybrid off the tee (only hit driver 4 times I think) and really getting it out there a long way.
    - Hitting 4 greens in a row (9, 10, 11, 12) and playing those holes 4 over par. Over holes 9 and 10 I had two tee shots, two approaches and seven putts. (and 41 putts for the day).
    - On the very next hole after that debacle (13) I took par despite hitting a backwards shot 20m in the wrong direction out of a plugged lie in the fairway bunker. Ridiculousness.
    - Smashing my approach too big to the very back of the green on 18, only to have thecollective say "Did you just hit 6-iron 175m to an elevated green?" In hindsight I should have hit the 7-iron in my other hand I was thinking about.
    - Sliding that loooong downhill putt from the back of the green in front of the gallery that broke two ways, skimmed the edge and left me a tap in par and a win for the bet, which was a nice way to finish the day and weekend.

Can we do it all again next weekend?

Thanks for organizing it Benno. All were quality tracks (well, might wait until the reports come back of Nudgee today!) and everything went off pretty seamlessly.

Congrats also on winning the big dance. Turns out laying up to hybrid distance is the key to success.

I had a bloody great time from start to finish. Finally got to play RQ, somehow avoided NAGA, got a couple of kaakaas and got spotted in all sorts of unexpected places around town all weekend. I was gassed by the time the back 9 at a Brooky rolled around. Could be that I’m still shite and that run of wipes was always coming, but I prefer to think I was just hungry after that that kookaburra relieved me of half my sandwich.

Thanks to all my playing and drinking partners over the weekend. See you at the next one.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Peppas game relies on adjoining fairways, Brookwater has none.

Benno, mate congrats on being the first to 2 time Qld champ. Also thanks for organising another top weekend.

Lefty, mate great defence of your title. After watching you hobble your way around RQ I thought it wouldn't be the last time we played over the weekend. Hence the reason for my stupid drunk bet to bet against you and back Matty. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BET AGAINST WINX.

To all the guys I played with sorry for putting up with my junk golf all weekend. I will be back next year and with early mail of a Mackay/Whitsunday champs on the radar, playing a few course in my backyard that I am familiar with I am planing a repeat my VIC Naga/Champ double with the QLD NAGA/Champ double. I think this weekend I was a bit like St George, peaked early and failed to fire when it mattered most. Playing of your lowest cap at these events is a tough gig.

To any one who hasn't been on one of these weekend and is thinking of "just do it". The only thing you will regret is not doing it sooner.
