    Default August/September coring?

    Gents,

When are your home courses coring in August/September? Thought this thread might be useful if you’re looking to get a game elsewhere the weekend after. I’ll get the ball rolling (or NOT rolling, in the case of cored greens) with mine:
Liverpool GC (Sydney): Tue Aug 14 & Wed Aug 15.

I’ll probably try and get a spot on Sat Aug 18 at somewhere like Dunheved, Glenmore, Penrith or Lynwood.

Coring's never been an issue for me. If you're a member of a club and they do maintenance in order to keep the course in the condition it should be for the rest of the year, surely bumpy greens for a few rounds a couple of times a year is not that big a deal. If you're not a member of a club, ok, pick and choose. But if you're a member of a golf club, looking for a game elsewhere doesn't seem very loyal to your home club for doing the right thing by the course. If they didn't do it, the greens would turn to shit in no time and how much would the members like that?

I just see it as an opportunity to play somewhere other than my home course for two weekends a year for the one weekend after each time the greens are cored each year. It’s nothing to do with loyalty. Obviously it’s an essential facet of golf course maintenance. My course has an Ambrose event the weekend after coring, which is also kind of a novelty event. That just doesn’t interest me, particularly when I only get one round a week.

How long does it take for the greens to bounce back. Virginia was done a week ago and have just had 4 days of rain.

It depends on what type of coring they did. If it was a light coring they may be back in 7 to 10 days. If it was a heavy coring, it could take 4 weeks.

And after the rain that we have had, may need a further sanding!

They are doing Reddy Bay this week. Might head up this evening for a look and see what they have actually done.

Wynnum's have bounced back really well. Still slow as tits but it has only been a few weeks, but plenty of green top and should be great for the summer once they get a chance to give them a decent low cut safely.

Gangarru at Riverside Oaks came back quite well too. No real signs of the coring from 5 weeks ago. Still a bit slow cause of all the rain but coming good.
