    Default Last ever Black & White Marker Challenge - Redland Bay, Friday 3rd August 2018

    I was told today that there will be no more Black Markers at Reddie Bay after the August event. We have a group of 3 booked for 7.00am. Plenty of tee times still available after that also;

    All the old dudes stay at home when the course plays off the tips? Disappointing.

    Actually more old dudes than young tend to play it.

    Extra weird. What would cancelling the official 'back marker' do then, if all of the old dude members are already playing it? Is the thought that a regular single stab will get the visitors turning up?

    I don't know the logic as yet, but I plan to find out. One of our Pros told me, because he knows I organise groups to play in it. The only comp they usually have on a Friday is a 9 hole scramble. Today they had about 50 play it. The Black Marker probably averaged 80 to 90 players each month. They lost the original sponsors (Royal Pines) a couple of years ago, so I suspect that it is marginal economically.

    I presume it was started originally to attract new players to play the course. But our Board is very insular and dyfunctional (factionalised) these days, and has no interest in anything other than keeping the old members happy.

    This is the death knell for any club. Who is supposed to spend money on the course or over the bar in 10 years time when all of those blokes are long since injured, out of the game, or dead.

    The old members should be the ones most vocal about sewing the seeds of some sort of future, rather than just whatever they want to do in their twilight years.

    End rant. I am looking forward to raising the bat for the final Black Marker

    It appears that a sponsor has been found and the event shall be resurrected.

    As we go to press I am delighted to announce the arrivalof our newest Sponsorship Partner. Peiter Eksteen andhis Company (Bedrock Funding) have agreed to“Naming Rights” sponsorship of the Monthly Black andWhite Marker Challenge. This event was at risk ofextinction and we now have the opportunity to re-buildthe content into an attractive event encouraging bothMembers and Visitors to experience our Course in itsChampionship format.

    Excellent!. Looks like the first one back will be on October 5th. I will book a slot once the bookings sheet opens.
