More greens than normal. Fairways about average but I actively tried to keep it in play. Haven’t had 3 birdies for a while and haven’t had a double free round for seemingly ages.

There’s a bit to be said for hitting to good spots.

Can’t hurt. I’m going off a small sample size.

good to see the 4,6,8,w combo working for you Bushy, don't know why but seems to be so much better than 3,5,7,9

I’m thinking about that in relation to efficiency. Do I ‘really’ need a 4 iron when I can play the 3hy down to about 150m? I think 5-7-9-54 might be a more efficient make-up but I think it’s splitting hairs at the moment.
I’m playing the FNQ Open this weekend so will see how it performs on a course other than my home club.

Playing a half set- Trial
Finished the FNQ Open today which brings to a close 54 holes of competitive golf with the reduced set. Scores are 72, 82, 76.
Still not found a situation where I really needed the club I didn't have and in saying that I hit a heap of greens today at Gordonvale which I'm fairly happy with given their size. I did swap out the 54* for an old Nike Forged 56* but that didn't really work the way I wanted it to so the 54 will be back for next week.
I decided to try my MP18 MMC's in place of the 68's but I will be swapping back for next week.
One thing I was pleased with is the versatility of my 3 hybrid, today I hit greens from 155, 176, 189 and 187 with it. On 18 I hit the green from the downslope of the cross drain out of a really shifty lie. 2 putt birdie from about 15ft was disappointing though.
Next Saturday I'm playing at Atherton so it will be another test on a course I'm really not familiar with.

I've played 10 clubs the last two weeks and like Bushy haven't really noticed any difference. I've been between clubs a few times and gone predominantly with the longer club and an easy swing. It definitely hasn't cost me any strokes doing this.

I almost always play a bag that is a few clubs short of the full 14 anyway, but there is merit in what you are saying above. To that point, I found myself with the wrong club in hand on a 150m par 3 yesterday that ended up only being 113 to the pin with a forward tee placement I hadn't noticed. I'd normally grab my 54 degree wedge for that distance but had 8iron in hand and the bag was ages away. A round wasn't being put together so I just choked down and swung easy and stuck it to 6 feet.

I had a similar problem on the weekend. 139m to a pin on a top tier, not hitting 7 there so I pulled the 5 and chipped it to 6-8ft. Three putted for a 5 though 🤮
Actually I hit more greens than normal (11) on the weekend at Atherton which has smallish greens. I can think of at least half a dozen shots where I had to hit something flighted, like a 9i from 80m.

I actually played for a bunker intentionally with a longer iron yesterday also (bumped low and in) with a half chance it could roll through to the green. It didn't, but got the up and down out of the bunker easy. I think choppers like me should probably play for bunkers more often when needed (particularly scrambling) as my sand save stat would be double or triple as effective as a short-sided chip/flop shot from the shit.
I might start embracing my inner Bubba on social rounds and just take a couple of clubs out and see how I go.

Well I played again this arvo and hit 6/9 greens on the back before hitting 3/4 around the front before it got too dark.
GIR has always been a weakness of mine so I’m pretty stoked.

I’m dead set convinced it’s from playing more club and swinging smoother. I’ve got the MP68’s in the bag too with one wedge and it’s heaps of fun which was one of the main drivers originally.

Both really good irons, i probably prefer the 68’s due to the sole. I went to the MMC for more forgiveness but there’s really no gain there. They have different shafts so that might have something to do with it.
I’m heading out this arvo and I’ll throw the MMC’s back in and get re-acquainted.

I loved the MMCs at a demo day, even though some reviews said they weren't that soft feeling, I thought they felt awesome.

They’re every bit as soft as the 68’s, it’s the sole that makes the difference I reckon.
Another good one tonight with the MMC’s this time, a couple of birdies with some solid iron shots.
Setup is.

A couple of weeks back I changed out evens for odds and changed my wedge from 54 to 56.
After a bit of range time this arvo I’ve made one more change in preparation for the Atherton Open this weekend.
Wedges now consist of 52* and 60*.
Setup for this weekend will be
2016 M2 9*
2016 M2 15*
Adams Proto 21*
MP68’s 5|7|9
Vokey 52*|60*
