Yeah the streaming free data was good when I only had 6-9gb. Now I have a work phone there’s no issue.

Well, Spotify is a surprise landslide winner in our house so far. It was always going to be positive for me, as on Android, the Apple Music app is not that great. But surprisingly my wife says she is much preferring Spotify over AM and finds the app works much better on her iphone than AM. In our car for instance, if you haven't driven it for say half a day plus, AM doesn't start playing music straight away (android or iphone). She has to open the app and start playing via her phone, then it's ok for a while. But often it doesn't remember where she was so she has to open the album or playlist again and start a new shuffle. And this happens everytime after a reboot. For all of us, Spotify just automatically starts playing as soon as connected to the car, and starts from where it left off every time. Even after multiple phone reboots. She is also adamant that the music sounds better than on AM. While I told her that AM uses a lesser quality/bitrate I don't know if that's really true or now.
What I've also found is that Spotify's much much better at normalising the music levels. AM, I was always turning it up or down as some stuff was softer, but haven't had that happen with Spotify. Even with music I uploaded myself.
The only downside is we have free data on Telstra with AM, but I'm getting back into the habit of downloading my music to my phone again. Can't wait till we've had it long enough to start getting some decent suggestions going.

Apple doesn’t allow you choose but it’s 256kbit/s.

Spotify has 3 options. Need to be premium member to use anything other than normal.

    Normal 96kbit/s
    High 110kbit/s
    Extreme 320kbit/s

Listened to my first Discover Weekly playlist curated by Spotify, and it was bloody outstanding!!! While I only added a few songs to my library it was a fantastic mix of songs, some from artists I already have in my library (but not the song), some covers of songs I already like, and some new (or old) stuff I haven't listened to. It even picked up that much of what I listen to are live recordings and probably 2/3's of the playlist was made up of live stuff. Very impressed so far.

Netflix went this way recently didn't they, not allowing you to subside through the Apple app? Ultimate media devices my arse! Can't play any video my kids throw at them without me first converting it. Pretty much the same with music.

The “30% apple tax” is funny.

Considering every company who makes money via selling apps is required to pay it. Although Ek is trying very hard to say it’s a Spotify specific thing.

“The streaming music service failed to mention that Apple recently updated its subscription policy by dropping its cut to 15 percent for subscriptions older than one year.”

Spotify playing the poor hard done by ‘little guy’. For a company with €1.5Billion in revenue per quarter they sure are having a whinge.
