For the SAnkers out there. Mawson Lakes is closing down and being turned into housing in the next two years.
Sad but no great loss. It has some of the worst course conditions in the state. And that's saying something, coming from RNHGC!!

It is my third favourite course of those I've played in SA. Glad I got to play it last year before it goes.....

It is a little sad after the improvements made over the years to the funky layout.
Not sure how large their membership was but they will be looking for somewhere else to join.
Cost wise I’m guessing North Haven, North Lakes or is it known as Playford these days and Regency Park are around the same mark.

It's Playford Lakes now. Most will be going there I imagine, then Regency and possibly Penfield.

We're not that local so won't expect any our way.

Default Course Closures - Another one bites the dust

    I forgot about toffee Penfield.

Fees for Penfield are not that much more than Mawson Lakes.

This AFR article says Cranbourne GC will be closing and turned into a $150m million housing project.

    https://www.afr.com/property/commerc...0240212-p5f45u

Can't read all of it as it's behind Rupert's paywall.

I'd heard that a while back - it had only a year or two to live. Wonder if they are going to buy out another club or build further out?

I suspect its an ambit claim to eventually settle to 'meeting community expectations and desires' and instead get approval to redevelop the driving range and 3 now closed practice holes.

Yowani Country Club - Development application approval signs to lose 20% of their available land and build a more compact, shorter course with a relocated clubhouse. Not sure where they will fit it in but the club is heading towards insolvency without it.

    Six years on...

Yowani is down to 9 holes with a full rebuild underway. All land east of Sullivans creek was sold for 30+ million, funding the construction of a tricky, short, par 70 course on the remaining land. Its 6 months in, and six months behind schedule already.

Gold Creek - the owners have come up with another proposal, trying to game the system. There is a huge local resident pushback - it won't go ahead

Federal - seeking approval to remove the current 6th and 7th holes, and adjust the current 3rd - after getting knocked back for redevelopment of their range/carpark/clubhouse due to the loss of protected woodlands, they have proposed a roughly 200 unit development in the middle of the course. The front 9 would be come the front 8, with the 6th tee going to the current 7th green around the lake, and a new par 3 built up the hill after the existing 13th. What will be the finished product will be worse than currently exists.

    Aren't they merging/moving to Huntingdale?

Shame its getting bulldozed, pretty nice course getting turned into a bunch of poorly constructed McMansions.

Edit, Webster beat me to it re the merger.

Huntingdale recently started their redevelopment with OCCM.

Huntingdale pick up about $10m and 150 members as part of the deal, which funds the OCM redevelopment and pays down some existing debt. Most H members I know hate the whole deal.

Hungtingdale spent big on clubhouse reno not long ago, so can see why they wen't after $$
    150 members seems low.
Have the Cranbourne members got a decent deal for Huntingdale. Lower subs for X years or something?

If not, you'd think some would drift to closer courses.

OCM have their work cut out and neither Ranfurlie or Settlers are as good as Cranny IMO.

Disagree, Settlers has some nice holes, but just feels too hemmed in by the realestate. Ranfurlie atleast feels like its got its own space and provides more width and interest off the tee. But agree Cranbourne is ahead of them both.

Cranbourne was never owned by the golf club the "community" that own it decided to sell, some time ago.

Surprisingly only 150 members remain, the rest left as soon as the invite to Huntingdale failed to materialise.

Huntingdale was the only major Sandbelt course without a wait list. That speaks for itself imho.

Beverley Park and Hurstville golf courses could be used for open space under proposal.

I’ve been assured that it’s not in any plans for the next 10 years and just as unlikely for the 10 years after that.

From the Director of Assets and Infrastructure

    Hi Shaun,

I understand that Beverley Park Golf Club and its members have concerns in relation to the contents of the Draft Georges River Community Infrastructure Needs Assessment and Acquisition Area Strategy that was presented to the February Sports Advisory Committee and is currently on public exhibition until 20 February 2024.

Please be assured that Council has not discussed or made any plans in relation to the current or future use of the Beverley Park Golf Course and has no intention of altering the current intended use of this site in the foreseeable future.

Also note that the language used in the Draft Georges River Community Infrastructure Needs Assessment and Acquisition Area Strategy regarding golf courses is consistent with previous studies undertaken by Council.

Feel free to pass this information on to your members and please give me a call if you wish to discuss further.

    Regards,
    Andrew
