    Default Introducing myself

    G'day,

Long time lurker and thought it might be a good time to start getting involved a bit more. (I lied, I actually wanted to sell/trade some clubs but I need 40 posts before I can do it )

I'm 27 & been golfing for about 5 or 6 years now I think? My local is a goat track north-west of Melbourne, it's not pretty but it's within walking distance for when you have 3 or 14 beers after a round.

Never had a lesson, slowly but surely getting my handicap down (15.9 GA currently).

Looking forward to getting involved in some banter on here

    Welcome Pickles.

Does your local have sandy greens or grassy greens?

Thanks mate, they're grassy but they're not good. It's a 100% volunteer run course/club so I'm not complaining, they do a fantastic job all things considered. We also have a hell of a lot of trouble with corellas at this time of year destroying the greens.

    Welcome!

I love playing goat tracks and there is nothing better than the community supporting their local course. Which course?

Haha I don't want to be that guy.

I recently bought new irons so have my old set sitting around doing nothing. Would normally offload them on gumtree or ebay but I like the community feel on here not trying to rip people off etc.

I'm a member at Romsey, how about yourself?

There are always challenges involved in courses like Romsey but just about every member chips in and helps out when they can, some obviously do a lot more than others though.

I was guessing Broadford or Kilmore to be honest. Didnt even know about the course in Romsey. Will have to make my way across and have a hit.

I'm a member at Yarrambat, but prefer playing different courses throughout the year than playing the same course every week.

I know Kilmore has problems with those bloody corellas as well.

I too try and play many of the local courses. In winter I play a fair bit up at Mt Macedon. Also play a bit midweek at Lancefield and try get to as many others when I can. Heathcote, Trentham are two ripping country tracks within about 40 minutes of here.

    Welcome to the forum.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

I seem to remember a greenie telling me once that they are after a grub ( seed maybe) that’s in the roots of the grass and that you spray for the grub and you stop the birds , I could have this wrong could be dollar spot I am thinking of , but am sure if there is a cure the green keepers association will know

Thanks mate, will pass this on to those in charge at the club. They have tried pretty much everything so far without much success.

It is, yeah. The famous / infamous Uncivil War. So its individual matchplay, 4B matchplay, and we also have a stableford competiton in there too. Action packed day!!!!
