He's the Happy Barn Rat now after surviving the sudden death playoff to end up winning the tournament.

I was hoping Nitties would win as he's a battler and the 2 year exemption could have been life changing.

I don’t know about everyone else but I watched a bit of the Shot Clock Masters last night and I’m impressed with the speeds the guys were playing.

You don’t really notice the difference in the play however it seemed most guys were playing ready golf.

Average time to complete the first round was about half an hour quicker than last year.

And 45 minutes faster than standard for that course.

    4:30 average

    4:45 average at the event

There were 3-4 groups that were 18-20minutes ahead after 6 holes.

Shit yeah! I saw Daniel Berger at the St Jude's yesterday take several minutes to make the decision to chip out 40yrds. It was painful. Such a bad look.

Doesn’t have to be visible like this event but I’d welcome the PGA tour doing this.

Can’t see it though however the success of this trial might force their hand.

It’ll happen when the broadcasters want it to happen. At the moment they seem happy with 5 or 6 hour rounds.

I think we need this thread bumped, as it is a very significant event this week.

The French Open isn't just a big event because it is a Rolex Series Event, but the Ryder Cup is being played at the same course in September.

So, everyone in Europe is playing, and Justin Thomas is there as well.

If the rough is as deep during the Ryder Cup it might be a bit strange. The setup this week appears to favour the straight hitter rather than the bomber, and it seems to discourage attacking play.

Still, this week should be worth watching.

Yep, Turkish Open, Wentworth and this event are the best Euro Tour event of the year for mine. Really like watching them play Le Golf National.

I was thinking last night whether Justin is getting paid or just decided to do a recon trip.

Since Brooks Koepka’s success I hope we see more top Americans playing on the Euro tour.

Great to see this event and I’ve always liked this course. Will be good to see it with 200k screaming fans.

Interesting to hear that this course is one of Jon Rahm's favorites as well.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

I like all the Rolex Series events. When all the top Euro guys turn up they put on better events than most of the US events. This one is certainly way better than the Quicken Loans. If Tiger, Rickie and Leish weren't playing that one would be a real yawn fest.

I was also interested in Rahm's comments. I can't believe he likes 18 though. It is a horrible hole, with an unfair island green for the length of the hole. I do wonder, if someone has a two shot lead, whether they would lay up and wedge it on rather than risk a hard bounce into the water over the back.

I've played there a couple of times, it's always been a par 5. Too long for me to get there in 2 from the tees we played, you hit it down the right side and come in with wedge which is still a tough little shot.

Not sure why they don't take the tee back a bit and continue to play it as a 5, if you want to go in with a long club to a difficult green you get the reward.

Think I saw somewhere that the 18th plays at 430m from the back tee normally. Not sure if they play it from that tee box as a par 4 for this tourney but it would be way too short as a par 5 for these guys. Is there space for a tee box further back to play it as a "pro" length par 5?

My unreliable memory tells me that 18 used to play as a par 5, tailor made for hero 2nd shots to a back pin with water just behind the green. But I suspect they are experimenting with the course setup in preparation for the Ryder Cup, so they are playing around with the distances of many of the holes. There was a par 4 playing 270 yesterday that was 360 the day before.

As it was, the hole was OK at a slightly shorter length to the front pin. OK for the bomber who could get 8 iron to hold from 170m, like Justin Thomas did. The back pin was the problem, where players hitting 5 iron in couldn't depend on the ball holding the green.

Marcus Kinhault needs to either change the way his name is pronounced, or needs to put an 's' in front of it, but he needs to change nothing about his game. He may falter in the last round due to his inexperience, but he clearly has the game to be a really good player. Sergio needs the win more than he does, but Marcus looked really good.

It should be great viewing tonight (or tomorrow for me, after I watch the replay).

Agreed but even though he went 2 under in the last three, the others came back hard to hand him the win. I'd say it was about half him winning and half the others chucking it away. Especially Wood and Suri.

How good is the Irish Open going to be this week?

Unbelievable looking course. Such a run of awesome events on the Euro tour.
