    Default 2018 PGA Tour

While the season technically started back in October 2017, why not start a 2018 thread with the traditional kickoff event at Kapalua.

For those on autopilot expecting coverage from 0500, the TV doesn't actually start until 1000, and it doesn't seem to be repeated in the evening, so press your red record button if you aren't home to watch it live.

I'll be cheering for Jordan Spieth, because I know how popular he is on this forum, and I like to follow the crowd.

I enjoy watching Kapalua. Its not a classic course by any stretch of the imagination, but its one I have always had on my list to play if ever in the area.

It is actually one of the best designed modern courses that is still relevant as a venue in the pro game.
The telecast makes it look bad and obviously they have some condition issues this year!

    http://golfclubatlas.com/courses-by-...course-hi-usa/

The players have vast width which is needed as the wind howls most of the time.
Amazing they (Coore and Crenshaw) were able to build a course there!

Nothing here about being tucked in. The “current accepted golf fashion” is changing so let’s hope the Tour is watching and listening.

Does the PGA TOUR have a dress code or appearance standard?
The PGA TOUR Player’s policy states that, “players shall present a neat appearance in both clothing and personal grooming. Clothing worn by players shall be consistent with currently accepted golf fashion.” Golf attire and fashion is always changing and evolving. T-shirts, jeans, or shorts (for players) are considered inappropriate. Our officials monitor player appearance for violations while allowing players to express their own personal styles.

Oh well, the ToC didn't tell us much we didn't already know.

All the good players played quite well, and it is being Captain Obvious to say Dustin Johnson is going to be number 1 until at least the next time all the top guys are against each other in same event, which may not happen until the WGC Mexico.

It is something I don't care about, but others should be excited by the M3 and M4 logo's on the caps of the Taylor Made players.

What’s going on with the commentary of the Sony Open? I’m watching the playoff.

It sounds like the PGA Tour radio guys and they are really putting me to sleep, lacking any character.

I wondered that, too, so I looked it up.

    https://au.sports.yahoo.com/golf/a/3...-of-sony-open/

It was clear they were calling the action off the TV cameras, and there were hardly any camera angles, and almost no crowd noise. It was very strange.

For those who don't know what we are talking about, the Fox replay is on a bit later this evening.

It may be related to the false missile scare, and they are reporting from a secure/remote location.

The other thing I took from the altered coverage is how you take some things for granted, and only really notice them when they aren't there.

There was no fairway reporter, and no closeups of the lie, or behind the golfer shots from the roving camera, because there was no roving camera. We tend to have a bit of a whinge about TV coverage of golf, but when you see a different version, you realise how good it is.

I never really appreciated how much guys like Feherty and Jerry Foltz and Mark Rolfing bring to the coverage, but I really missed their input.

However, there was one aspect that was actually better. Because they hardly had any cameras, they used the overhead shots from the blimp quite a lot, and once the cameraman in the blimp learned how to follow the ball, watching the drives on 18 from way overhead was quite good.

The thing about that is that 18 is a fairly sharp dogleg. Being a short hole for a par 5 it plays well. I distinctly remember JT flying waaaaaay over the corner last year on his way to a romp.

We have networked Foxtel at work and I watched the last few holes of rd4 and then all the playoffs holes so far.

He isn't quite on, but appears to be getting back to some form. Great viewing so far

chappy, did you see JB Holmes standing motionless on 18 waiting for the wind to change.

Stood there for 5 minutes and then laid up whilst Alex Noren was waiting to play. Appalling, should be penalised. Apparently it was a 6 hour round.
