Was Bancroft run out trying for a quick single?

Smith would be ropable after getting bowled playing around a straight one from a debutante trundler.

Marsh doing Marsh things. Looks good. His swatting pull shot is a thing of beauty.

Excellent innings today. Quite possibly a matchwinner. It wasn't very exciting cricket in the first session, but it turned out to be the right way to play. The extra hundred runs added with Cummins (good again, too) will make life very difficult for the English.

I'll admit that my opinion on selection merit has taken another battering. i wouldn't have picked him, but he is now a favourite son again. Tim Paine was good, too. Who would've thought that a keeper picked for his batting would actually score some runs at an important time.

Hopefully the bowlers continue to pitch it up tomorrow. It should be great viewing again.

Weak! People should be comfortable with their criticism of the Marsh selection and continue to run with it.

Shaun Marsh can play (undisputed) and when he has been selected/recalled he has performed, on debut, 2013/14 vs the Yarpies, in 2015/16 and again in this test he's scored a ton.

He's the race horse who is good first up, the problem is that if history is any judge his form will wane and he will be dropped.

Not so much an issue if you are a younger bloke but he is 34.

Great knock but I disagreed with his selection

All of their selections for the three open spots have worked a treat. Paine has kept superbly and played an extremely good and important innings yesterday. He got us pushing along at the right time.

The knock on Marsh is as much (or more) about being injury prone as lack of talent. Lets see how he holds up injury wise over the duration of the series. Mind you at this point he's done enough already to justify his selection no matter what.

It's good to have a few performing and a couple in the wings as well. Burns just had a big shield game and Maxwell is in form. Renshaw will turn it around at some point too.

Do we think Steve Smith will refuse to enforce the follow-on again in a pink ball test for the evening session?

At least he threw himself to the wolves along with the rest of his top order.

Anyone who thinks Jimmy Anderson is an over-rated bowler should look at a replay of that session. In favourable conditions he is still an absolute gun.

Smith has no idea when it comes to turning the screws on an opponent.
The Poms were in tatters and he fails to go for the jugular and send them in again!
One session is all the bowlers had to get through and then they get a sleep.
We still have more than enough runs, but if we had put them back in, we may not have had to bat again.

The sports science people seem to have a lot of say. I wonder if they're the making the call about bowling again.

Probably, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. We’re only 1.5 tests into a 5 test series, with injury prone quicks and don’t have a 4th seamer. As entertaining as it would have been to see us go for the jugular last night, we’re going to win the match anyway so taking the conservative approach is fair enough in the context of the whole series. Had to admire Anderson too. He’s still got the goods in the right conditions.

Having done plenty of tours I very much doubt it. They’ll be getting drunk in a pub somewhere and going through their repertoire

I read the Barmy’s spokesman in the local paper saying that numbers were down for this test as they couldn’t get tickets so people didn’t travel to Adelaide. If that’s the case I’d expect more at the next tests

On to the cricket, and that was England’s chance. Well as they bowled yesterday, the damage was already done, and without Smith getting the follow-on call wrong the game would have been over yesterday.

I can now see a 5-0 whitewash happening much as it pains me to say it. This Australian side is nowhere near as good as 06-07 or even 13-14 but the 3rd seamer and spinner are clearly better and the batting marginally so (tho the gap is bigger in Australian conditions). That’s going to be enough to win all the remaining games even without a Smith and/or Starc doing something special

The Barmy Army are great aren't they. Good series so far. England miss Stokes all round class and dare i say "fighting" spirit quite a bit. The first test was on a razor's edge for a long time and England were ahead most of the game. Marsh made sure they weren't ahead this time out.

Nice to see some fringe and back up players doing well in the shield, particularly Bird as our paceman in waiting.

Keeping a close eye on Swepsons development too. It will be great if he can deveop into a world class leggie. He certainly has time on his side and is going well in first class cricket already.

And now Mitch Marsh is back in the squad. Of course.

Does Nick Politis’ bagman work for Geoff Marsh over the summer?

The Aussie selectors are master trolls.

More seriously has anyone actually seen him bat since he was dropped? Has he made technical improvements or has he just been batting on roads?
