Agree, though there is a certain satisfaction in English Players being portrayed as the Drunken Yobbos of the moment. But then you realise it is the Murdoch Press running the sensationalism stuff as usual, and your smugness shrinks back just a little.

So Warner should have made bancroft run more quick singles. You realise how silly this is right?

Silly how ? Not suicidal singles . Quick singles and getting off strike is a legitimate batting tactic . Warner is the senior batsmen and yes he should have employed that tactic to protect and blood a new test batsman especially in the first few overs . There is no "I" in team .

Lawry and Simpson did it against the West Indies fast bowlers

Bradman once scored a triple ton. Bancroft should have just done that.

There is no point arguing with stupid.

Through out their whole careers and it's a tactic used by players and mentioned by commentators all the time , rotating the strike . It's a lot harder to get out if you are at the non strikers end . Simpsons two main things when he started coaching Aus was fielding and running between wickets especially taking quick singles

Great combo that one. Their opening stands averaged 60 odd, about 10 higher than the likes of Hayden/Langer, Tayor/Slater and co. which is really saying something. Even away they averaged over 60.

That's because they rotated the strike.

Granted my only experience of Lawry is in the commentary box (or 12th man albums) but I’m surprised to hear ‘the corpse with pads on’ was a devotee of quick singles and rotating the strike.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Believe it or not he was extremely fast between the wickets. He and Simmo had a great understanding when it came to running between the wickets. To see the opposite of this watch Graeme Wood in action

    I giggled!

Yep, super quick. They also loved to rub it into the opposing team at every opportunity. Neither took a backward step, on or off the field.

Ha!! I used to have a Bob Simpson book, old as the hills and written well back in the day. A little green softcover. It had some great insights but loads of humor as well. Some of the best stories involved he and Bill, particularly when they first encountered Charlie Griffith.

Grumpy could you point out where Warner let Bancroft down by not running a quick single?

Could you also direct me to the time Lawry and Simpson ran 20 quick singles in the first 3.4 overs?

    Thanks,

    Yoss

I'd be satisfied if he could actually tell us the one day he saw them bat together live.

Unlikely it was against the windies.

One of the most interesting parts of that game was the Indian 2nd Innings. 6 for 600 odd, so 8 batsmen visited the crease. 4 centuries, and 4 single figure scores. Nobody in double figures. I can't imagine that has happened too often.
