SMarsh WTF. Same age as Ed Cowan who was left out despite a much better shield record (including recently) so they could play some younger guy who is still proving themselves

And dropping Renshaw based on his recent shield form is rubbish too. What happens if Bancroft fails? They’d end up going to someone new again

Once these selectors get bored of cricket they can join the AFL MRP

You could make an argument for the batsmen either way I guess, but it’s pretty bizarre that they’ve picked a keeper that’s been fielding in the slips recently and had only kept wickets for something like 2 first class games in 2 years.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

    So we've picked a wicketkeeper/batsman who doesn't keep and can't bat?

The other keepers in Australia should give up.

Turns out the coach has a more recent shield ton than the ‘wicketkeeper’/‘batsman’.

And he is still more capable with the bat than either Paine or Marsh.
What an absolute joke this side is.
I have no problem with them blooding Bancroft but as keeper/no 6 batsman.
Poor old Renshaw and Maxwell can both feel extremely hard done by.
I hope the crowds vote with their feet and stay away from what will be a farce of a series!

I refuse to go to any of the tests except the Adelaide one and even then I might just stay out the back of the members stand and drink wine from a plastic cup

I would have left Renshaw in at home, Maxwell would have kept number 6 and i would have had Bancroft in as keeper batting down the order with lower expectations. If he struggled a little with the gloves (over 1 game, 2, 3 whatever was deemed as appropriate on the fly) you could have still looked at retaining him at 6 or opener depending on how everyone else was going as well as his own batting.

It'll be a tough initiation opening against Anderson and Broad. Apparently Bancroft is hard as nails tho.

Good, more room for me to watch the game. If I ring you about 6pm would you mind bringing me a curry for dinner?

In Yes Minister speak, there are some courageous selections made. If Paine works out, the selectors will be geniuses. If not, they will be sacked, because under any normal criteria his selection cannot be justified.

Bancroft can be justified, particularly with Renshaw not making any runs at all, but his selection is also a 'throw him in at the deep end' risk. He scored big runs on a WACA pitch that doesn't play anything like what Renshaw (or others) have been struggling on, and now has to do it on the one wicket that may suit Anderson and Broad if we bat first. Still, I'll cheering for him to do well. If he works out, with Renshaw waiting in the wings our batting suddenly looks a lot better.

One more day and a bit to go. I'm golfed out as it is after the SA Champs, so I'm due a few restful days in front of the TV, switching between the Oz Open Golf and the cricket. It should be good.

Gosh what a lot of rubbish about Bancroft, throw him in the deep end? He just scored 76* and 86 v the Australian test attack. Averages near 40 opening the batting despite a horrendous first Shield season and a down year last year.

What does the WACA deck have to do with it, they play shield games at every venue strangely enough.

Another sedate wicket, why is it everyone doctors pitches but us, or is it because we can't bat on anything?
