Hmmmmm this is interesting as I'm moving up to live in Windsor from the middle of October and am looking at Nudgee, Virginia and Keperra.

Any reason why you chose Nudgee?

    Keen to hear your thoughts.

Good luck. I hope Penant teams up there are a little different to here.
Bit of a boys club here even if you have a lower hcp. Have a few mates that have tried to get in.

If they had a Div.22, I might be a chance.

Haha nah i'm not focussed on the drinks cart, it's the fact that we are paying more fees each year but getting less in return. That's just a little part of a big puzzle. Don't get me wrong, the people there are great, love the guys in the pro shop. Just feel that it's being run by people with a less future orientated look.

Don't worry, it was a boys club at Virginia as well, I was a shadow despite having better results than half the guys playing. A few lads pulled out and I came in and went 4-1 which was the best record for the team.

I've been at Virginia for 4 years, like the place, it's a decent course, good people, just don't think the people running it are doing a good job. Pro shop owner just got bought out 12 months prior to his contract ending so the club can start making money week to week.

I joined Nudgee because for one it's $300 cheaper a year, no joining fee at the moment and will have 2 nice courses in the coming years to play. It also offers a few more challenges than Virginia. Also, it has much better practice facilities than Virginia, 3 practice greens, a good range, nice chipping and short game area. Plus it has the South Course which is only 14 holes at the moment, but great for afternoon practice rounds.

I've only played Keperra once, but it's a nice course from what I remember, just a bit far for me to get too from where I work/live.

    Hope that helps!

As a junior I was a member of Redcliffe.Never forget the time I walking the 16th I think, par 5 with a tree in the middle protecting the green, when I nearly stepped on a bloody snake.Lucky for me it was a python and not something a bit more deadly

Just seeing if you have an update on Nudgee?

I'm having a hit there on Sunday to suss it out.

I have Nudgee, Virginia and Redcliffe in my 'courses to try' list before joining one.

Redcliffe is the better challenge of all three, Virginia in the best location but Nudgee will have 36 new holes eventually so rate the club house and bar mate
If it aint for sale the right price has just not been offered

I'm a member at Virginia which is a good enough reason to look elsewhere.

I have been a member of all three and would rate them
    1/ Redcliffe
    2/ Virginia
    Distant third/ Nudgee

I'm guessing you would have played there yesterday? I went out and played 9 holes in the afternoon, course was in really good shape. I have joined there and am happy that I did. Will still go play at Virginia from time to time. The course at Virginia should be good after the rain, although it can take a little while to drain the water away.

So.....had a hit at Nudgee yesterday afternoon. Played the North course. my initial thoughts:
    Pros
    - course condition
    - clubhouse
    - practice facilities

    cons
    - roadworks
    - layout. first few holes were good but after that, it felt a lot of holes were just straight with not a lot of variety.
    - having a 36 hole membership base but only having 18 playable holes for comps.

Will have a hit at Virginia this week/weekend and make up my mind.

I guess the good thing is those cons become null and void soon enough. New layout for the 36 hole complex looks pretty good, the roadworks will have finished and then there'll be 36 holes for competition play. Agree there are a few straight holes at Nudgee, but you get those at Virginia as well. 6,7,8 all play dead straight, so do 13,15,16,17 & 18. I enjoy playing both courses, was a member at Virginia until 2 weeks ago.

Virginia is in dire straights-atm. Tee blocks are furrier than a Nimbin cheer leader, fairways have less grass than dirt patches and on the greens you would get a truer roll putting in the secondary ruff at Royal Qld,
