Default Australia's best Value Golf Courses.

Searching through he web and come across this article.

    http://www.golfaustralia.com.au/gall...-463467/page20

Haven't played many of the courses but would you agree with the decision. If not, what would you change and put in the list?

Wembley has changed alot since i first played it about 15 years ago. For a public course, it looks like a pretty exclusive private club. and its not that expensive to play either...

I have played 6 on the list. If we look at cost of weekend green fees vs quality of course - Murray Downs ($50), Murwillumbah ($36) and Wembley ($40) deserve a place on the list.

Yarrawonga ($52) I could take or leave but if you factor in the whole facility it's not too bad.

Black Bull ($48 ) and Mt Coolum ($48 ) while cheap, aren't that good on course quality. I can think of better courses for less, and in their place I could suggest:
    Mt Compass ($45)
    Bribie Island ($44)

Narooma is just outside $50 at $55, but it is $42 if you are playing comp.

Mollymook in the same area is $49 is a good course too.

Both are better than Merimbula, which made the list.

St Andrews Beach is $59 mid week (walking) in winter, that's pretty hard to pass up.

While Mt. Coolum wasn't bad, I don't think I would ( outside of the champs) pay $48 for the round.

Mt. Compass would definitely be happy to pay $ 45 as it was in fantastic condition when we played a couple of months ago. Still needs works on the bunkers but the new owner is doing fantastic things.

I'd struggle to imagine a better value for money course than Port Fairy. It's wonderful. I haven't been to Murray Downs for around 10 years, but I'd support that too - it was surprisingly good when I went there.

I think Warrnambool and Lonsdale are both quality tracks and reasonable value, but I think they're over-rated and not superb bang for buck on a list like this. Ratho Farm looked really good when I drove past it a few months ago, but I didn't have time for a game.

Horsham was definitely worthy of the list before the fires they had a few years ago, haven't been back since. Courses like Trentham and Cohuna could sneak on if they're still cheap and cheerful. Terang looks nice from the road for $20, but I've never played there. Goonawarra was better than I expected, but probably not massive value for money at around $40-50.

<bias>Queenscliff would have to be a candidate </bias>
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!

I'd probably throw Lady Bay into the mix also, even through there is a stretch on the back nine that doesn't make sense. Were they starting to run out of land and just crammed in some holes?

As good a bang for your buck as you could hope for. I love that place.

Or Federal with summer twilight rate.

But I think you have to judge it on weekend rates, as that is when most punters are likely to play.

Royal Westgate, $24 for 18 holes - the graffiti, an aqueduct, the brothel, a dog-leg par 3, walking under the Westgate bridge, the train line hole, the noise of the trucks on the highway 10 metres above your head, plus you can take your dog and drinking a can is mandatory. Exceptional value and great fun. Dress down.

You're right, but it is a great deal. A real shame we are building a site at Portsea over the next few weeks, I think they will be getting quite a few site visits during that time!

I still agree it's a great deal, and it begs the question: is StAB @ full rate of $90 a round better value than Yarrawonga or Blackbull at $50 a round?

    In my opinion, easily yes.

Sounds like the only thing that has changed since the '70s when I played Pennant there for Moorabbin is the price! Maybe a little bit more traffic on the bridge.

    Did Cairns get a mention?

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.
