How miserable are the early players looking in the conditions! Wet, windy and cold.

We shouldn't feel sorry for Mark O"Meara, even though Dan Jenkins left him out of his list of players worthy of a mention as winners at Birkdale.

But the poor guy hit the first drive of the Open, and the fourth after his first went OB.

It doesn't look like much fun at the moment.

But it appears that the coverage will kick off the same way it did last year, by showing every player on the first tee. I really like it when they do that.

If an Aussie can't win I'm pulling for Ian Poulter.

Conditions seem to be getting brighter as well.

I agree. Would love to see Poulter win. Hope Dodt can carry his form through from the Scottish Open too.

I gotta say, I've been watching pretty much straight through from 3:30pm this arvo till now and with the exception of the early groups that struggled in the weather, I think the standard of golf has been excellent. It's been really enjoyable. Have seen a couple of shockers but seen heaps of terrific shots. Some of the recovery shots have been incredible. It's going to be a fun weekend!

OMFG! Just saw Jason Day tee off the first. Can't believe he's wearing those fu$&ing stupid high top shoes and tracksuit pants. There are just some things that don't belong on a golf course, especially at The Open. The Open should have a dress code like Wimbledon.

I'll say after hitting the hay about midnight, it's a relief to see Day and Scott sitting at -1 this morning. Shame about the rest of the Aussie boys. Rory looks to have made a monumental fightback after a horrendous start.

There was talk about Spieth shooting the lights out this week after a couple of guys watched his practice rounds.

All in all looks like a good start, Koepka for 2 in a row?

+1, he looks like an idiot maybe he's had a bet with Rickie and lost.

Not 100% sold on the Justin Thomas look but at least he didn't look some rapper who bought a set of golf clubs.

Yeah I wasn't sold on his look either but nowhere near as bad as JD. Good to see JD play reasonably well at least.

BTW could anyone see what irons Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose were playing? Looked like they were playing the new blades that Rory has had in his bag for a while.

Day looked awesome. I still want a pair of those Jordan 1s. Strange that it's fine for equipment to move on from Old Tom Morris' day but not fashion.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

    I like some variety.

He looked like a character out of Tiger Woods PGA 2004.

Ha! Maybe! Mind you no one has worse fashion sense than the big cat himself.

Justin Thomas looks like a private school boy who took the bus from school straight to golf, but forgot his change of clothes.
