I got a trial with free sensors too - had trouble with shot detection using my phone. Bought the caddylink figuring I could sell the set and not lose money if I still didn't like it, but it's way better with the caddylink.

For those that have been using Arccos for a while, do you pay the yearly fee?

I'm a very early adopter of Arccos. No idea why, but my 'Manage Subscriptions' page says:

    "No subscription needed.
Your account does not require a subscription".

No idea how or why, but I've never paid a subscription fee ..

Their FAQ page mentions that the early generation sensors had free subscription, but the current sensors are subscription only.

How does everyone's Arccos handicaps compare with their Golflink? My handicap is over 8, but Arccos thinks I'm almost a 6 marker. I thought it would take into account that my home course is easier, just by seeing how short it is when I play.

Forgot about that. I did have the original sensors.
I have the current sensors now, but like I said - have never paid a subscription.

Yes, the app used to be free, and the sensors were the only cost. Now it's easier to get sensors cheap/free (Cobra, other offers) but they make their money on subscriptions. It's the way everything's headed.

Arccos has me a couple of shots higher than GL, but I've only got 2 rounds in Arccos.

I've only had two rounds and have a bit over 2 weeks left in my trial, but so far I'm leaning towards signing up.

I've paid the yearly fee once and will let it keep rolling this year.Andy my Arccos handicap is 8.8 vs my current golflink handicap of 7.3. Mind you the golflink is lower due to some decent rounds lately and Arccos is counting 29 rounds to date

I gradually stopped using Arccos. It correctly identified weaknesses and strengths, but I didn't really need to be reminded after that. Plus doing it properly is (or was) too high maintenance. Too many missed shots to fill in after the round.

Oddly enough I continued to use the screw-in sensors though. They are an easy (and removable) way to change club length.

All that said, Covid boredom has me dabbling in technology again. I bought an Apple Watch which has various apps offering Arccos style shot tracking. So far they are all even more of a hassle than Arccos. At least Arccos recognises the club you use. Scrolling through a list after every shot is way too hard.

If I could get onto the course for practice rounds I'd be tempted to give Arccos another whirl. Mainly, to be honest, to see how my increasing age has affected my numbers.

Judging by what Arccos says I hit my old set 5 years ago when I started this thread and what I see now on course this might just depress me.

But CV19 crowds make that tough.

As for the handicap thing, my Arccos handicap was historically 3-4 shots lower than my official GA handicap. Which made me think I was a better player than I was. Arccos had me in single figures. Which was nice when I was officially playing off 13.

Over the last couple of years I've cut my GA handicap in half so I suspect that would no longer be the case.

I wasn't aware that Arccos now charge a hefty annual fee. I'm still on the free regime, but can't see the value in the subscription.

So is your only option after the 45 days a 1 year subscription? Not really worth it if you aren't playing regular golf I would have thought.

I was inspired by my earlier post to try and resurrect my Arccos for a round or two.

I take back what I said about Arccos being easier. Maybe if I started from scratch again, but I have a mix of screw in sensors in my old clubs and newer clubs (from Ping) with sensor grips.

So far I can't get them working together. I can't get the driver working at all.

But as mentioned above I'm dubious about the actual benefit of all this tech.

I know where the strengths (driving and irons) and weaknesses (chipping and putting) of my game lie. I know where I miss (left). I can see that adjusting my driver reduces left misses. I know that switching from long irons to hybrids has increased my GIRs because it is reflected in my scores.

I know exactly how far I hit each club by checking the GPS on my wrist.

If I was really really serious about golf Arccos might be useful as opposed to interesting. But if I was really really serious I'd have lessons. Which would be far more effective.

Due to the yearly subscription model they are only really useful for people who play regularly, which isn't me at the moment. I would much rather a monthly sub so I could at least activate it when I will be playing a bit.

Are you able to pause your subscription?

I have a set coming via the Ping deal Andy posted, but due to the sub set-up I will most likely get rid of them, or put them in the cupboard and hope they still work when I can play more often, a first gen set would be great as no subs and I think they have replaceable batteries, or second gen which still have no sub and you can replace the battery if your handy.

My link has stopped working. I am thinking of ditching it now as it kinda sucks without the link needing your phone in your pocket. Paying a mint for a new one is not in the plans, and they won't replace it cos I bought it second hand.

If they are a retail package I wonder if I register them with a new account if I will get the 1 year sub.

I got my free Ping sensors and registered them to my existing account with no problem. I've got no idea about the 1 year sub though sorry, I think I got a free 90 day sub when I first registered.

You get a 45 day trial with the Ping promotion sensors, however due to COVID delivery days, the trial has been extended to 90 days. The trial started from when I activated the trial though, which was September 19.

I signed up for a free trial twice (different email addresses) because I kept getting shafted with lockdowns and not being able to really use it in the trial period.

A couple of weeks ago I forgot about it and now I copped the subscription fee so i guess i'll have to try and use it now.

Keep forgetting to start a round in the app though.

Yeah I got that covid extension email today, mine were activated on the Sept 20, still not here thou, but are apparently in the country.

I am guessing the retail packs come with a code for the included 1 year subscription?

I got my trial extended by emailing them and asking, no problems.

Anyone else having issues with shot detection on the tee on par 3s? Picks up almost every other shot, but consistently misses irons off the tee, regardless of strike quality.
