Decided today to head into Busan to catch the Nexen Saintnine Masters. Apparently this is a 2nd tier event on the KLPGA. No big names, I think highest ranked player came in at 36 in OWGR.
2hrs of public transport (Bus / train / taxi) found me at the 54 hole Gaya CC complex. Like a lot of Korean courses, the holes are literally carved out of the side of a large hill. Course appeared in decent knick. Crazy part was every hole had 2 greens. I assume so the members can keep playing while the tourny greens are prepped. Most holes also appear to be dully floodlit.
We got there in time to watch a number of the last groups play the back nine. Crowds were bigger than expected and pretty well behaved.
The girls aren't very powerful. The drives are long, and they don't generate a lot of spin. But my god are they straight. On the par 5 16th, watched 12 ladies play through, 9 played their first shot within 2ft of the centerline, 2 still on fairway and 1 in the right rough.
Winner was Kim Min Sum on -11, which netted her a cool 100,000,000 won. We watched her finish with an impressive birdie and get the obligatory wet t shirt.
All in all was an interesting day out and I am glad I got to see it.

Wasn't allowed in the club house to look. The Honma irons in some of the bags were very tasty though.

The 2 greens are different grasses. One for cool weather play, the other for Queensland weather!
They do the same thing in Japan as winters are cold and summers hot and humid.
