    That’s laughable......
When I played it, I thought to myself that grass is very fine, would be interesting to see how it holds up....

What sort of grass is it, looked like it had been seeded?

Its very hard to get the real story, but I understand the course was oversewn last year against the Greenskeepers best wishes, and the oversew took over. The removal program and the insane heat of this summer prevented any regrowth and the course is now a very expensive potato patch

Was that not caused by too much rain though?

They may have claimed that, and while rain played a part in the new grass not growing, the main cause was changing couch for bent (or vice versa).

Absolutely. I recall seeing something about it on an episode of the Back Page. The turf farm near Gordonvale was one of the suppliers and a bloke we went to high school with was working there at the time when they shipped the turf down south.

The buffallo probably would have survived better. I think it was some variant of Greenlees Park' that was flavour of the month at the time. I remeber seeing a lot of it used for spec homes in City View, probably because it was cheap. I drive past those homes now going to my parents place and the buffalo grass has just taken over. 😁

Royal Canberra uses bent in its fairway. They didn't want to use couch because they don't like couch goes brown in winter.

Sounds right. I believe they oversewed with couch or rye last year and its come back to bite them. A genuine shame.

The problem there is the amount of poa in the fairway and the effects of the weather last summer.

I’ll find out more next week away at the moment. But I think the super just hasn’t adjusted to the bent he wasn’t involved with the original sowing and selection which is a big one for learning how to manage it no idea yet what they oversowed it with yet. Blaming the grass choice is a reflection on the clubs inability to manage it. I know the original super would be laughing big time over the GM leaving and the current state of play. As for chasing couch encroachment which that would result in crap fairways I sure wouldn’t do it leading into a tournament and I found the bent and couch to work very well together in a fairway situation.

The real story will be interesting Spanner. I have spoken to three members this week for three different stories.

As with all tales, there are 3 sides to every story. His, hers, and the truth somewhere in between.

Its a real shame, as the course was in fantastic condition 12 to 18 months ago.

Spanner, always seems like clubs are always chasing their tail, RC are trying to get rid of the couch out of the bent, we are trying to keep the kikuyu out of the couch, or the santa anna out of the some type of couch and then everyone seems to be trying to rid themselves of poa annua.

Is it the weather that causes all these issues (perhaps they are unsolvable) or clubs steadfastly refusing to go with the path of least regret when it comes to their surfaces
