    Default RIP Mr Pete Dye

One of the greats. As Bill Coore says, "Pete Dye changed the direction of golf course architecture twice, and no-one else has done that".
Both Coore and Doak studied under Dye.
Has anyone played a Dye? One day I will.

Only played one, played TPC Sawgrass as a birthday present for my dad in late 2018 and it was all that I expected it to be. I loved the design as it forced you to think on every shot with some shots being more visual in their challenge and some being full on penal. The closing 3 holes were immense and enhanced by seeing them every year on The Players. Would love to play Whistling Straits (nearly played last year) & Harbour Town. RIP Mr Dye.

Is there a quality book out there giving in depth discussion regarding his course design?

I’ll try and find some links but I’ve read som Doak books where he goes into some detail the things he learnt from Dye while he worked there.

There aren’t many eps of the Feed the ball podcast where he doesn’t get a mention.

It seems a lot of knowledge and ideas have come from or been inspired by him.

Ok Ferrins, here is the book:

A few of the discount book houses (the ones you find at DFO etc.) had this book in stock, not sure if they would still have it

Pete Dye made some quirky golf courses, probably his best work is 'Teeth of the Dog' (Case de Camp) over in the Dominican Republic

Whistling Straits has divided opinions. One things for sure you certainly cannot call it a traditional links course. Hard to really hold a personal opinion without having actually played the course.

Sawgrass serves its purpose well IMO. I just wished it remained rustic like it was when it was first designed.
