I've spoken to a couple people here in Abu Dhabi and 'stress fractures' is maybe going a bit far. Worked a bit too hard over Xmas, nothing to worry about and should be good for Dubai in two weeks.
Even without Rory, Abu Dhabi is a terrific tournament. One of the best fields all year, on a course that looks really good on TV. And they use lots of pro-tracer on the coverage, which is always a good thing.
I must admit that I always like the Middle East events, even though they are a bit fake. Obviously the courses are as unnatural as a course could be, and quite a few of the players are only there because of the appearance money, but they are always good events.
This one looks no different. Lots of guys in contention with 6 holes to go.

So glad that Fleetwood got the big win. He's a quality young player with a tidy swing who has been knocking on the door for a while since his lone win prior to Abu Dhabi.
I also enjoy the events in the Middle East, the Dubai Desert Classic in particular.

Well done Tommy.
Bounced into the top 50 now. Still sticking with Nike, guess we'll see what offers are on the table over the next few weeks

There doesn't seem to be much need to post in the Tiger thread about his round, except to say he played poorly yesterday.
The tournament itself is worth talking about though.
Lots and lots of good players playing, but it appears many of them will have their chances destroyed by the weather. The second half of the field were badly affected yesterday, and the commentators were saying the forecast is so bad they may not play today.
While the wind was fairly significant, it could be the first round I've ever seen cancelled due to sand or dust storms. It has probably happened before, but it is certainly unusual.

I note with interest that Sergio seems to have abandoned the claw for a conventional putting grip. It is coincidence that he is leading by 4 and should win (unless poster's curse hits him)?
It's not a major, but it is a big tournament that should act as a reminder that Sergio is still a factor in the big events.
Edit: He rushes back to change his post. Upon further inspection, it seems to be a modified claw. He seems to have more grip with his right hand than he used to. But maybe I'm just wrong.

Great golf and commentary in Dubai
Well done Sergio. Deserved win and another Ametuer win to Curtis Luck

Very strange decision from Stenson on the 17 last night. He was down by 4 with 2 to play and takes iron out on the drivable par 4.
Good win from Sergio, but was a little disappointed to see him go back to the claw grip for the final round cos it looked like he was putting really well the first 3 days with conventional grip.
We might not see any more play tonight in the JoBurg Open, which is a pity, because I wanted to have another look at Jaco Van Zyl's putter.
It is amazing. It is basically a cube, not much bigger than the diameter of the ball.
I googled it and it didn't get a search result result, so it must be something brand new (and very ugly).
Those with long memories may recall Jesper Parnevik's home made job. This was similar, but stranger.
Hopefully we'll see him again on TV tomorrow evening.

How good does the course in India look. Bloody beautiful andBloody brutal. Couldn't imagine how many golf balls I would lose
Was painful to watch
Course looks pretty cool though. Would love to see up close what the bunker faces are made from. Obviously seen bunkers on links courses in the UK but these ones look like some sort of artificial bunker face. Anyone seen them before?
