Hmmm, the drive back to the Sunshine Coast might need to be delayed.

Yet again, everything has all but fizzled out before it reached me. I would have liked a bit of heavy rain actually.

Thanks for the heads-up. Just quickly whipped around with the lawn-mower in anticipation.

Pic 1 - The storm approaches. At this time it could stay out to the west, miss us to the south, or..... The key factor is that puffy white band of cloud.

Pic 2 - Looks like it has turned in our direction.

Pic 3 - Closing in.... the blue/green colour of the sky behind it isn't pleasant.

Pic 4 - It's a matter of time. The wind has turned to come from that direction, and freezing cold.

Pic 5 - Can you count to 10? About now an absolutely massive lightning strike hits the top of the hill behind us.

Pic 6 - This is 10 minutes later. Rain is coming in horizontal, and I've retreated into the car port to snap this shot. I was soaked within 10 seconds.

Needless to say, but I was shitting myself as it hit.

1 - About 30 minutes after the main storm hit.

2 - Another 5 minutes on, just as the sun was setting. The gold colour is another light shower coming through.

Great pics, Thats a fairly common type of storm in SEQ, I havent seen em anywhere else. They remind me of a big mushroom, low puffy clouds around the edge and inside the cloud is higher but just a dense translucent black.

Whenever you see one of these buggars, you know whats coming, batten down the hatches! If you ever remember a oneday cricket match at the Gabba, when the curator raced onto the ground with the covers before the umpires had even stopped play, cos he saw one of these mothers coming. He got the pitch covered with only seconds to spare.

Mike - The in-laws are on about 300 acres about 10 km's north-west of Casino in the north-east corner of NSW.

Like I said, I was crapping myself and everyone had gone inside to get a fresh XXXX Gold, and then go nowhere near any windows. The dairy (about 150m from where I took these photo's) is only half standing these days from a storm about 3 years ago. I expected something similar.

But I don't and if I did I would be used to it as it is in an area that has almost Monsoonal rainfall in the climate.
