    Default p4m's "swing"

    Hi

    Hoping to get some feedback
    Bit of background
Since i started golf i quickly developed a inside takeaway, so for a long time my 'feel' has been taking it away from my body
As such i believe this has caused me to start getting stuck recently and pushing my path further and further right (which causes my fats, thins).

I went to have a lesson (can see my original swing below) this was a fat shot but shows what i was doing roughly, way inside, hitting up on ball or ground frst.
    https://youtu.be/ytxTKKL2QYI

What we worked on was getting back to the outside feel, strong grip and trying to exit club left.
Specifically on the exit left i couldn't get near any results.

When i look at the video now (below) it almost looks like a chicken wing (speith style) which seems wrong
    https://youtu.be/eWe-qR2c34Q

I would like to get backswing going back on plane as i think this should help in the downswing, However if i dont think of taking it outside it just sucks right up inside.

Keen to get any feedback from anyone any suggestions what should be working on, or alternatively any coaches in Northern side of Sydney that can help with the fundamentals from the start

or should i give it away and get into lawn bowls early?

    28 AGU btw.

    Cheers
    p4m

There would be less than 5 blokes on here with any useful advice on your swing and I'm not one of them.

North side of Sydney, I do know, get down to Narrabeen and see Dave Saunders.

Did you only have one lesson with the guy?

If you're off 28 and want to get better, probably at least a lesson a fortnight for a couple of months to get you going, if you're serious about improving anyway.

Ask golf forums for who, not how

i've had a few lessons, been playing on and off for 4 years however i felt in the last lesson was resulting in a chicken wing (didn't notice till after lesson).

ill definitely look at dave saunders

I'd be staying away from video to be honest, there's not too many text book swings about and unless you have a trained eye for golf swings, you'll be Baker Finching yourself, paralysis by analysis.

yeah but some coaches want to fix you for that day, not improve you for the long term.

Im not interested in band-aids and when i look at my swing looks like compensation galore.

Not saying this was the case but i will get a second opinion too see what they recommend~!

Have you thought about worrying where the ball ends up rather than how pretty your swing is?

I think the chicken wings thing you are on about is just the way your wrists work. They don't look to hinge alot in the backswing. With your takeaway it doesn't look to bad, it is better than before but your hands seem to push away from your body in it instead of turning your shoulders and them coming in slightly while the club stays outside them, if that makes sense.

Is your ball flight high right? Lots of fats and thins?

Yes exactly toolish, or a pull draw / hook.

Alot of thins or fats atm

I had a second opinion, has his take was hips are stalling and just flipping the hands which makes sense to me, alot more then swing left.

Working on opening the hips, and from the other thread getting some decent results focusing on takeaway as well.

You are flipping it mate. Look at the left wrist at impact, should be flat, yours is a long way from it. Your hands should be in front of the ball looking face on, not level with it.

You need to learn to roll not flip, then you will start hooking the shit out of everything, so then you can swing left.

If you try to swing left at the moment you will sub-consciously try to keep the face square which will just make the problem worse.

Grab a 7 iron and hit some 50 metre shots using your normal ball position etc for a 7 iron but trying to hit it as low as you can. That can help with the feeling of getting the hands ahead.

When you do this you will tend to squeeze them low and right, that is fine, the first step.

Then it is time to roll the arms through impact.

Hope that all makes sense. Through impact chipping, pitching and the full swing are similar, just work up the chain.

    Hey Toolish

Thanks for the reponse i 100% ive always been flippy.
Ill try hit some of those shots get that feeling.

    Two thoughts on this
    1. Can the flipping be reaction by something else going wrong in the swing (eg. pivot stalling, weak grip)
    2. As ive always been pretty yippy in shortgame i have started implemented monte scheinblum's short game style (more of a flippy right arm) results have been fantastic doing this style is it possible this is now leaking into my full swing.

    1. Stick to what your coach is telling.

    2. You're more than likely yippy with the short game cos the club is in the wrong spot. Go ask your coach.

    no and yes
    i am now off 27.7!

Don't confuse my curiosity with understanding the swing as "not listening" what my coach is saying or ignoring advice from people here.
I am always going to read and be interested in it.

i am not looking for the magic fix, sometimes people say an idea and it clicks with you.

Sorry, I don't know Monte Scheinblum or what he teaches. I looked on you tube and found this
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTJes7u5-Rk

    Untitled.jpg

If you can get into that sort of position with your arms, wrist, shaft etc when chipping then grow that through your swing life will be good. The other thing that can help here is hitting chip shots looking at the ground about 20 cm in front of the ball. Don't even look at the ball. That is where you want the hands to be driving too.

Flipping can be a reaction to a pivot stall, if you stop flipping and start rolling then stall the pivot the ball will go hard low and left.

Then you can turn harder to straighten it out.

It is a bit of a chicken and the egg thing, but personally I found it easier to work on the flip and left the pivot take care of itself.

I've only been following Monte for his short game stuff, more of a flippy "feeling" and it works well (idea is alot more neutral using the bounce, like ben crane).

Thanks Toolish gonna try those low 7 irons this arvo!
