Had a good round yesterday and my cap is under 3, now at 2.9, for the first time ever, lowest previous was 3.3 early last year when I had only started playing again and had 2 of 8 rounds carded to calculate my handicap (so cheating a bit) & again in July this year. Got a couple of low flags falling off in the next 6 rounds so may take me some time to get back here again but pretty happy to set an all time low.

Nice darts, where did you end up joining, recall you moved northside of Sydney.

Ended up joining Avondale and really like it. Took a while to get used to but it’s a good members course, the members are really friendly and the course is always presented well and offers a challenge but if I’m driving well i get a lot of wedge and in approaches which can be fun.

It's the smallest drop possible but still a new low of 8.5

After flat-lining for a while, a 74 today brings me to a new all-time low of 6.0. No low flags to come off for a while either, so if I can keep up the good form I should be able to get lower.

Thanks. Related to your other thread, I'm hitting my driver really well (9/11 fairways with driver yesterdy, and still had a shot at the green on the other 2), which is making a big difference.

Goes to show that "Drive for dough" is what really matters for the non-pro. Nicely done.

That's huge mate, so all effective drives!

Absolutely agree. It's not to say putting isn't important but amatuers are not scrambling anywhere near as well as pro's which makes getting it off the tee into a good position hugely important.

I find putting can turn a good score into a great one, but you can't make good scores of you're not hitting (effective) fairways.

There's a massive difference with being able to advance it out after the missed Drive to under 50m out from the green over bunting it out completely sideways to be playing a 3rd from where you'd play a second shot.
The course you play (length & tightness) will largely determine how accurate your driving needs to be.
Back when I used to track my stats I found my best days with the driver never equated to better scores over my average effective drive days.

Nice work on the good round BYU and new low hcp.

Started at 12.4 after my third card was a +15. Probably be the lowest I get for a while, it's up to 14.6 or something now and I expect it will plateau around 20 before I can hopefully get it going down again with consistently better play rather than a one off good round 😜.

New low of 7.8, I don't expect this to last long with 3 of the next 5 rounds dropping off being flagged rounds.

I feel like the biggest contributor to the handicap drop is a functional short game.

Watched a clip on Gary Player recently, he was hitting five irons and seven irons out of greenside bunkers and putting them beside the pin. His big tip for amateurs was to work on feel and the short game, belting balls at a range was a not a good option, in his opinion.

    I shot 87 on Saturday.

I think I'm at my lowest point.

It's taken quite a while to develop some feel around the greens. I've started using a lot more clubs around the green than just the lob wedge. It's a bit disheartening at first when you use a pitching wedge next to the green, chip it well and end up well over the back.

Playing with Solarman will do that to you. 😁

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Not according to the bloke who invented strokes gained. It’s hitting greens in regulation

Gary Player is a fool. You should never listen to him. About anything.

Do you mean Mark Brody? I don't have stats for my game over the last 2 years unfortunately so I can't give you a real answer. I can tell you that not duffing chips around the green has saved me shots. It still happens but not nearly as frequently.
