Default highest course by altitude in AUstralia

I was listening to a podcast from canada and they were talking about ball flight in the mountains.

Got me wondering where the highest course is in Australia.

Would it be Mount Beauty ?

Thredbo has a nine holer, Jindabyne has a course associated with a sports camp (that may be open to the public) and there is a 18 holer at Berridale (Coolamatong?).

The Thredbo website claims it's the highest in Australia. That'll do me. Shut this thread down.

Altitude isnt a consideration in australia.

Heck every other country has hills that make Kosciousko look like a flat tin roof.

Highest altitude is probably on the launch monitor at drummond when someone goes in to test new drivers...

I suspect this is true as far as the so-called altitude effect is concerned.

A playing partner once claimed his shots were travelling further at Moss Vale (around 1000m, maybe a bit less), but I didn't notice anything on the many times I played there 40 odd years ago.

Canberra is circa 600m above sea level and it’s definitely noticeable in summer. In winter the air tends to be pretty moist (love that word) and it evens it out.

Guyra Golf club on the New England Plateau NSW is pretty close. The town is at 1330 metres which is within 10 or so metres of Thredbo. Depends which bits are elevated more. Certainly no sure thing imho.

    * Guyra is the highest airport in Australia!

Google tells me that the town of Ravenshoe on the Atherton Tablelands is 930m above sea level. The 9 holer at Ravenshoe would be the highest course in FNQ, possibly even the state.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

In drier conditions I have definitely noticed the ball fly farther in Millaa Millaa

What about at Mareeba? Is ball flight expanded up there or does that only apply to handicaps?

Everyone else hits it miles up there, but one blokes ball isn't affected somehow, that's why his cap is always higher than everyone else's.

That is something I would never have picked in 100 guesses. Cooma is 947.

Thredbo is 1365 at Friday Flat, which is probably 50m lower than than the lowest point of the course, which rises significantly from low to high points
