By the time of the actual Champs, I should be in a long stretch of no flag rounds, so there will be no late movement of the cap (unless I play well and the cap goes down).

I fully expect all of my fellow NSW players to be scrupulously honest in their handicap dealings. No late handbrakes for us!

The Qld Champs are approaching quite rapidly

A study of my golflink shows it won't be easy for me to do much quality farming between now and then.

Good scores have dropped off after my last two rounds, so I have moved up to 7.1, which probably means a daily cap of 8 at most courses. I've only got two other flags that could drop off, and both of them are high ones, so it looks like what I've got now is all I will have.

If I keep putting the way I did today there isn't much prospect of the cap going down.

It is appropriate to bump this thread to track our preparations for the SA Champs.

My current is 5.7 (up 0.9 in the last two rounds), but I have a string of 5 non-flag rounds in a row to dispose of before the next chance of a flag dropping off. If I get the timing right, I could be in position to have a string of flag rounds to defend during the Champs. So the calculator could be in use at Mt Osmond.

Of course, that is assuming I am in form by then. I'm definitely not in form right now.

Not quite anchored, but on 12.7 this week, after reaching 9.2 at Settlers Run in February.

And get to play off 15 on Wednesday, for the first time since 2004.

    p.s. Work sucks.

    A final pre-SA Champs update.

I was unable to get a farming round in at all last week, so I'm sitting on a small handicap cliff.

Current handicap is 5.6, but the next two rounds are both flags. 36 point equivalent rounds, though, so unless I have a good round I'll only go up a point or two. Looking at the slopes, it may not matter at Royal Adelaide or Kooyonga. I'll probably be off 7 at both, but possibly 6 at Blackwood and Mt Osmond.

GA out to 13.5 and a playing handicap of 16.

ps. Just kidding. That was 2 months ago, and now 10.2 and 12.
I suspect Leb. mechanics fitted nitrous and turbo that goes 'peeeshhoooooooo' to my Vic champs tractor over the Xmas break.

I'm with you, Hatchy. I've got flags galore coming off, the next three, five of the next seven, seven of the next 11, with very little chance of bettering any of them.

Whether our egos like it or not golf is so much more fun when you have a few more shots up your sleeve, especially getting back into it

To be honest, I've been getting good at ignoring the handicap number, although it may be easier when there really is no expectation to play to it, since I haven't been playing. If you look at my score reports, I don't bother reporting nett scores or focusing on stableford anymore. I don't measure myself against a handicap in other sports, so I try not to put so much focus on it in golf.

Sounds good in theory, right? Hopefully it goes someway to helping me not lose my shit too often on the golf course.
