Yeah in my subs I just see a "Golf Vic affiliation fee". Just curious what GA's cut of that is, and of that much, how much is allocated for "maintaining your handicap".

Hard to say. A few years back when the GL site wasn’t actually owned by GA it was $2.20 per person.

But that isn’t really just for maintaining handicaps. You’ve got the salaries of the Rules and Handicapping department to cover. Even the costs of rating courses is related to handicapping.

The number could be anything (but may well be less than what they spend on GA entourages heading overseas to “assist” elite players).
    Forum needs more banter.

A mate of mine works in the golf industry and his boss has met with Golf Australia multiple times in the past few years.

His boss told him Golf Australia have over 100 employees on their books.

Last year GA demanded a cut of the entry fees from the Senior Amateur event played at The National (not the Senior Amateur Championship) despite the club and Golf Victoria providing all the admin people to run the scoring etc.

    That's how they boost revenue.

Most of the affiliation fees we pay go to the state. The amount paid to GA is very small comparatively.

Its hard to compare because each district and state sets their own rates.

The states double dip with country members don't they?

Isn't it all just mostly one organisation now?

Do you mean That if you are a member of two clubs. You pay the affiliation fees twice. If that's a yes then that is an issue you deal with at the 2nd club. The way the system works the second Club doesn't really know you just have to ask them and they should remove the affiliation fees from from your membership price.

Found the info. for the 2019 Calender year the fees are (inc GST)
    Golf Australia $20
    Golf Link $3.05

The rest of your affiliation fees paid goes to your State, District and Insurance. The State typically takes much more than anything else.

Just a little further to this. Seems like Golf Australia receive $2.77 for GolfLink and pay $3.25 to have it all managed. From page 53 of the Golf Australia 2018-19 Annual Report:

    (a) GOLF Link revenue
Golf Australia received $2.77 (2018: $2.77) per affiliated member for clubs connected to GOLF Link under the contract it has with golf clubs Australia for handicapping services to be performed for the period 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020. Income relating to the handicapping services performed in the period 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019 is recognised in the accounts, and the income relating to the period 1 July 2019 to 31 March 2020 is recognised in the Consolidated Statement of Financial Position as income received in advance.

Golf Australia contracts out the management of the GOLF Link system to MicroPower, and under the terms of the agreement Golf Australia pays $3.25 (2018: $3.25) per golfer to MicroPower in monthly instalments. Expenditure relating to the period 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019 is recognised in the accounts.

So we just need to cough up an extra 50 cents each to get rid of the ads?

Wouldn’t we need to pay whatever they get for the ads?

I thought Micropower lost the contract to manage Golflink?

They may have, I’m not sure. That’s the latest Annual Report I could find, so things may have changed since then.

It appears to have been terminated today. Brad, what did these ****s at Golf Australia do to you?

Is there anything we can do to them to change their mind?

Why did Golf Australia go through the facade of getting it up and running again, only to stop the use of the data?

I'm guessing after all of this they've probably worked out there is a market here and are going to release their own version.

I'm sure complete with less features, requiring logins, spattered with ads and of course for a fee.
