Gilley shot a 55 on the 5,954-yard par-71 course. Gilley's round included 12 birdies and two eagles, and he fired a 10-under 25 on the back nine. Gilley, who now lives in Newnan, Ga., has had some moderate mini-tour success, but had never come close to shooting a similar score.
not knocking the 55 (incredible back nine score!!!)

but if this was a mini-tour event...why the heck was it on a course less than 6000yards???
that's shorter than the course I play at...(not that that means anything )

... and who was marking this dictator's card - do you think he would have had the guts to say "You're not allowed to have that putt again, sir"....

BtW Mau - how long was the course that the 51 was scored on??

    Holy Crap! That's awesome!!!

Sounds like the clutch shot of the round was the snad save on 7... Had he not made par there he might have lost momentum... 10 under around the back nine is unbelievable....

I played a 4 man ambrose a few years back and we had 58 off the bat with 2 eagles and 8 birdies. It was pretty exciting stuff, but you kind of expect that in an ambrose... To do it in a single stroke is phenomenal.

There was a fella who shot an awesome round sometime ago. though it seems not a lot is known about it. I read about this in an article in the Australian (or Time), around 83.

he had back to back hole in ones early, one of them a Par 4 (100% positive this part is accurate) had another eagle and therefore was 8 or 9 under after 5 holes or so.

He continued to frighten the record book, but near the end made a run of pars, and 3 putted the last for a miserable 58.

Have googled a few times looking for this again, but could never come up with anything - Apart from this, but i dont think that is it.

Homero Blancas shot a 55 in 1962, and is the lowest round ever recognised in the USA. http://sunnehanna.com/history/history06.html

Talk about getting in the zone. A 55. Wow!

I'm not feeling so good about my 55 at Corinda Pitch 'n' Putt now.

Thanks mate, but I think 17 stableford points sounds even less impressive.
