    Default Melbourne

Was down for a few days catching up with my daughter who moved down there recently. Haven’t been there since 1982 so was expecting a lot of changes but only major ones I’ve noticed is that it seems a lot greener than when I was here last and the traffic is much worse. – Hired a car one day and couldn’t believe the delays getting around – particularly around the South Yarra and Prahran areas.
    More Asians noticed than Italians.
Love the little suburban strip shops.
It really is a great looking city – was staying on Fitzroy Rd at St Kilda across from the green of Albert Park and next to the neighbouring St Kilda streets and ‘beach’… – great looking old houses and lots of trees! Loved Acland Street.
Albert Park golf course looks pretty rubbish.
Does Melbourne really need a crappy big ferris wheel…
Lots of the property prices I’ve noticed seem cheaper than comparable stuff in Brisbane but that’s only an observation after a few days so may not be fully accurate.
The free city trams are a good idea, although I reckon only 1 in 10 people were swiping on and off outside the free zones – didn’t see any translink officers. inner city outside dining cheaper than Brisbane and my old golf courses I played as a teenager [Cheltenham and ‘Royal’ Sandringham look just like I remember] – will bring clubs next time and have a hit.

I stayed in South Yarra at the start of the year, and it was a pain trying to drive anywhere from that area, due to traffic. In the end, I didn't even go into the CBD, so there was no point staying so close. I'll stay out in the burbs next time.

Traffic is crap and have been told the next freeway up grade (thats started) is going to take another 2-3 years
Once upon a time there were more Italians than asians not no more and the city is blossoming as a result
A wonder around st kilda is one of the best things you can do in not only melbourne but victoria
Albert Park is rubbish always has been always will be
The ferrins wheel is shit no idea why its there, dont know anyone thats been on it
Property prices are more than Brisbane unless you look into the outer outer suburbs more than 30ks, no idea how first home owners can afford 1mill + for a dump
Cheltenham and Sandringham are exactly the same as what they were 30 years ago
    I dont do trams

next time bring your clubs and have a hit

Albert Park may be a shit choice for golf, but a much better place to stay that the SE suburbs or outer burbs. Anything in that SE corridor is terrible for traffic.
AP, stay in Albert Park next time you are in town. The CBD is very accessible by tram or Uber. Still on the fringe of great places to eat and drink- CBD, South Melbourne, Prahan, Windsor, even St Kilda is 5 mins away in an Uber. No traffic issues for the best part of the day. The Parkview Hotel is pretty hard to beat

That's the exact area I am talking about. I have stayed there and stayed around the corner from there this year. Traffic was definitely an issue anywhere near the CBD, and I was reliant on a car for my wheelchair at the time.

Our definition of what traffic should be in a city of 5 million obviously differs. Give me Albert Park traffic over the Sydney alternative any day.

Sydney traffic is worse than LA! Maybe we need more guns to incentivise better driving?
You're in big trouble though, pal. I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!

I avoid driving in Sydney, by avoiding going there in the first place.

I found Melbourne to be much better than Sydney Architecture wise, but got bored pretty quick.

How do you find the Brisbane architecture?

Brisbane architecture is OK apart from the godawful Queenslander houses.
