    Default VIC Private Course Options

Hi Guys, never really gave it a solid thought but now thinking about joining a private course. I'm not sure if I could have ever justified the funds previously (and not even sure now) but having a peek around to see what courses I should be looking at. Live right near Green Acres, Kew and Latrobe but each have their cons and wondering what people thought of these three courses and also if there were any other suggestions? Price point obviously a big factor but also like a challenging, well maintained course. All suggestions and views appreciated.

Out of those 3, I would go La Trobe.

La Trobe and Kew both have had significant reno's the last few years. May be finished now, but both are nice enough members tracks.

Depending on how far you want to travel, you may want to look at the Yarra Valley. Lots of courses and not many members going out that way so bargains may be had.

Latrobe's good and you get Shepparton Country Club as a reciprocal course

At $850 PA membership compared to 3k plus joining fee for the inner city tracks, it would be a option if I lived out that way, was budget constrained and felt like a 35 minute drive to golf each week.

Other options would be Green Acres, Ivanhoe Public or Bundoora. It all depends on budget and how much time you have available....

Yeah it's a toughie. Love the convenience of GA but the no driving range facility irks me.

i would definitely put Yering in that group and $850 is about right for a course of that condition, cheap golf.

I still rate it (Yering) ahead of Gardiners Run

What's the membership at Latrobe? Would like to play that course when it's warm and I'm not still drunk.

I'd go greenacres because of the 7th. Also think the first is a cracker as are all the par 5s. Why Latrobe? I've only played it half a dozen times but can't think of many holes that stand out. Maybe the short dogleg left par 4 with the big tree on the corner (17th?). All three have substantially upgraded drainage and it's no longer a slog through the mud during winter.

Kew is ok, green acres is a shit hole and Latrobe is a good members course. Wouldn't waste money in the valley. With 4-5k for the mud tracks in joining fees but then again if you live nearby and own your house 10k is only a weeks wage. Play well join a course you can walk home from

If you favor courses in good condition, you can't go wrong at LaTrobe. I've never seen fairways like it before!

Northern,my home club,is private.New holes that are being constructed are opening up shortly.

New 300m driving range, bunkers, chipping and putting area also.I think 6 distance greens up to 250 metres.Joining fee is waived ATM still I think,$2300 saving, and yearly fees of just over $2200.

    Worth a look also mate!

    LaTrobe fairways were very lush.

There's lots of focus on the course and very little talk of the club atmosphere. Before picking one I would see if I could try to suss out the vibe. Maybe try to get on as a visitor for your preferred playing time and see what it is like?
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!
