Default NSW Strokeplay Round 3 - Mon June 12 Camden Valley 8.30am

    CHANGED LOCATION - NOW CAMDEN VALLEY, 8.30, 8.37, 8.44

While I am still surprised to have earned the right to organise the next stroke event - who would think 7 over would win - I am going to use my power responsibly, and give the majority a chance to influence the final date and venue.

I firmly believe we should aim for the June long weekend for two reasons. Firstly, there are three days in a row available. Secondly, social clubs often don't play on long weekends, so there is a better chance of getting a good block tee time.

If the majority votes for Saturday, my choice of venue will be The Springs, as I didn't play there last year. The new course near Wyong, Kooinda Waters, is a bit further away, but might be worth a thought. I think it opened this week.

If it is Sunday, there are a few choices. My choice may be Glenmore, but I'm open to suggestions.

If it is Monday, I favour one of the regular Monday Open Days. Either Castle Hill, Strathfield, or Liverpool. If Bonnie Doon has finished its renovations, I'd vote for it.

I'll enter the following Saturday as an option, just in case many of us are going away for the long weekend.

I'm available for all dates, and will vote accordingly. Once a trend appears, I'll work out a venue and make an enquiry about times and prices.

It was going to happen no matter what dates were put up. I am out of this one as well.
The joys of shiftwork, the office secondment may or may not start before then. I am off the long weekend but am going away for the weekend up to Nambucca Heads. Scheduled to work the following Saturday too.
Guess this may just be a get square for me organising the first round.

Like GRant, will be away for the long weekend so have voted for the following week. But seeing as I haven't played the first 2 rounds then I'm not in a great position.

You are right and I am wrong.

I don't know how to edit the poll and fix it. I may have to depend upon the all-seeing eyes of AndyP, and ask him to fix it.

However, if more people are unavailable, I may have to rethink the date anyway.

We aren't going away (I don't think) for the June long weekend - so any off the days is cool with me/us (Brad)

I am not sure about my roster/plans at this stage, so I ticked all the above dates ...

Jim, why don't you just pick the date and the venue and we'll do our best to make it?

I'd agree with jono on this one, voting doesnt really help in these cases. I would recommend setting a date and seeing whom turns up.

Attempt number 2 at posting a message. The site doesn't seem to be working well at the moment.

I believe we need a minimum of 8 players for the event to be worthwhile. At this time, the maximum number for any date I've offered is 5. If the lack of enthusiasm continues until the weekend I'll propose some new dates later in June.

If you are planning to run polls until you get 8 votes for a date, you might have to wait a long time ... Just set a date, mate. Look at the Windsor thread. The most votes we got was 6.

I will stay out of this as my opinion got me into trouble last time.
As it stands I can't meet any of the dates so I guess I will hopefully make round 4 or 5.

After some prompting to make a decision, I have made one, and decided to aim for the Monday of the long weekend, June 12.

I am going to try to get a booking at Castle Hill, partly because I haven't played there for a long time, partly because I want to see why it is rated in the top 100 (I wasn't impressed greatly by it), and partly because it is normally a Monday Open Day, so we should get on without too much trouble.

The joy of trying for the public holiday Monday is that many other courses will have an Open event that day, so if Castle Hill doesn't work out, there are other options. If I really struggle, Camden Valley will be available as a last minute backup venue.

Even though I doubt if the booking sheet will be available, I'll give Castle Hill a call tomorrow just to check out the possibilities.

The list of players starts now, for cut and paste purposes.

    Hi Jim

I am playing at Castle Hills on 13 Jun, not sure if I want to play there 2 days in a row. I would prefer Camden Valley.

TS while i myself know how boring it is to play golf on the same course, it is a stroke round, and jim has made an executive decision. If you dont want to play because it will be a repeat course and would rather play camden, think about jim, he plays that course almost every week....Plus there are people that will be playing that would like a round on castle hill, we cant have anyone happy?

The real question is, are you in for the day, where ever the stroke round will be played, even if its played at castle hill, which isnt as yet confirmed.

I actually accept Tony's objection as valid. I wouldn't want to travel an hour to a course, travel home again, then back up at the same course the next day.

My main reason for not nominating Camden Valley as the venue is that my course is nothing special, particularly in its current ultra-dry condition. I also don't want to set a trend where the 'winner' chooses their home course for the next round. We still may finish up there, but I'll look at other places first.

The venue is yet to be determined.

By the way, I've also put this event in The Calendar. Click on June 12, and you'll see it there.
