    Default Launceston courses

Me and a few mates are going to Tassie in late feb was wondering what courses are worth having a game at in Launceston after we land we are going on to play barnbougle / lost farm and opinions would be great don't want to play a goat track and money won't be a issue

When we went down, we tried to fit Quamby farm in before we drove up - no luck due to frost.

BenM is a member at Launceston, give him a holla.

I am trying to find the post I made in the other threads giving my assessment of the Launceston courses but can't find it right now!

There are 4 main courses in Launceston itself (Launceston, Country Club, Riverside, Mowbray) - Launceston is arguably the best conditioned most of the time (I am biased) but one of the others may beat it for layout.

Beyond that there are heaps and heaps of other courses around the place, it really depends on how far you're willing to travel and what you're looking for.

I am a fan of Greens Beach GC. Beautiful scenery and a great walk west if you like spotting critters.

    ^^ This

(Sorry Benny) I am sure the other courses around Launy are nice enough.. but why fly all that way and not fit in as much golf at BD/LF as you can?!

Just did a trip there 3 weeks ago and played 5 games in 3 days. As soon as we left the talk was of when we would return again... it is that good!

It's technically private but they'll let you on I'm sure. Pretty quiet Tues/Thurs/Fri, there's a men's comp Wed and Vets on Monday.

Green fees are around $75 for visitors from memory, bit cheaper if I book it and introduce I reckon. Not sure what my availability will be yet since it's a couple of weeks after Vic Champs.

I have been meaning to write a course guide actually.

The course should be mint if the weather keeps up like this. Greens were at 10-10.5 on the stimp meter as of club champs a couple of weeks back, normally they keep them fairly quick until they core them in early December. Like most courses the greens slope back to front so you want to keep the ball short of the hole, otherwise on some holes (esp 3, 6, & 14) you will end up with a very fast putt or a very tough up and down if you overshoot it.

Basically though it is all about keeping it in play, if you miss the fairway you will be punching out quite a bit, unlike a few other courses up here (cough casino cough) where the trees are all spread out and you can spray it a fair bit with limited penalty most of the time.

There are a fair few short par 4s (1, 8, 12, 16 (maybe not from the back tees) and 17 where you really don't need to use driver. 1 and 17 are drivable for longer hitters.

I will write a course guide soon!
