    Default 3 wood shaft into a 9 wood ?

Google is not my friend in this case ....

Don't judge, but looking to put a 9 wood into play, as I cant hit my Hybrid for @#$%.

Picked up a 3 wood shaft that I want to use in the 9 wood.

Is it a case of just butt trimming the 3 wood shaft to 9 wood playing length ... Or should I tip trim the 3 wood shaft and then butt trim to 9 wood playing length ?

If tip trimming is needed anyone know how much the tip should be trimmed to be played in a 9 wood ?

    Thanks in advance.

You tip trim it to recommended 9w trimming, then butt cut the rest to length.

Every shaft has different tip trim recommendations - what shaft have you got?

Using a PING TOUR 65 Regular 3 wood shaft to go into the G400 9 wood.

    Doing well mate.

You have a tricky one here - this are ping's proprietary shaft, so there will be no tip trimming instructions available as such.

The good news is UST make these shafts, and looking through their literature, they recommend 2 inch total trim for a 7w, which would be fine for a 9w as well. They normally recommend 1/2" for 3w.

In my eyes, you could trim it 1.5" off the tip. The good news is a g400 9w plays 1.5" shorter, so thats all you need to do.

The only check I would make is to make sure the 0.335" parallel section is still part of your prep/glueing area, otherwise the shaft will be too fat for the hosel (hope that makes sense).

Ping G400 9w with reg. ALTA CB (bronze) shaft … 21.5" from end of tip to lowest point of the 'B' (or the 'R' in the flex label).

If you have a 3w version of the same shaft, then you could compare.

    Total 9w shaft length = 40.75"

    p.s. No dibs allowed.
