Default Okay, what’s the scam here?

Looking to learn from the more frequent buyers/sellers here.

I listed a backpack on Facebook Marketplace this afternoon. Within seconds I had what appeared to be an eager purchaser. Then he insisted on bank transfer or “payid”. Without being able to put my finger on it, I got a bad smell straight away. As you’ll see from the attached string I stuck to my guns for cash on collection. The purchaser then disappeared without further comment.

What was the scam here? If I agreed to a bank transfer, how could I have done my dough?

I think the electronic payments can be reversed.

He will tell you that your payid needs to be upgraded to a business account, and send you to a fake website that replicates your bank, hoping you will login then they steal your username and password. At no point will they transfer money to you

Thanks, Mark and Andy. Haven’t heard from him/it, since my last message. A dirty scammer it seems.

What MTB said. PayID is actually fine & secure, it just gets a bad wrap by association with these scams.
