Default What are these old Cobra irons?

    Howdy,

Wondering if any Cobra anoraks happen to know what these irons are, when they were made, etc?

Look like cobra baffler blade. Certainly a similar design if they are not. Mid to late '80s would be my guess.

1963 there were 500 sets produced under the eye of Ken Nagle and very quickly became known as Nagle's Nailers. They had a good following on the local tour and another batch of 500 were produced in 1964. The very funny thing about these irons was a reference to them by John Tracy on an episode of 'The Thunderbirds'.

Ah, but I heard that only 50 sets were produced under the eye of Robert Keith "Bobby" McFerrin, Jr, very quickly becoming known as "Don't Worry, Be Happy Baffler Blades".

Thanks Oldplayer, was guessing 80s too but can't find a match.

I wanted to call bullshit, since Cobra only started producing clubs in the mid seventies.

Then I realised that Marty McFly took a set back with him in the De Lorean. They sat in Doc Brown's garage for eight years, until they were discovered by Kel Nagle in 1963.

Bobby McFerrins, can you watch the Back To The Future films and find which scenes they're in?

So them are very close to Baffler Blades but the numbering is completely different and they look larger. Plus branded King Cobra which makes them an oddity.

TRD V Groove was the last of the old style branded as Cobra @1991.

An unusual set for sure. I still have my old Baffler Blades (17-4 forgings) in the back shed bought new in @ 1986.

My guess is 1990-91 vintage, same year Titleist released the DCI model.

I'd be guessing early 90's. They do have the look of bafflers, but the king cobra name throws you. It doesn't really look like the first king cobras. Can't find them on ironfinder.

About my only golfing regret is selling my set of TRD v grooves, 2 to pw with a Norman signature sw all with s200's. Had my best ever round with those clubs (and reached my lowest hc). About as much forgiveness as a marfioso who just caught you cheating with his wife.

Still got 'em in the bag. Haven't played enough. 2023 will decide whether it's a golfing year or otherwise. I think it will be.
