Same issue @ Loxton, they tear up the pin flags as well by hanging onto them and doing 360 spins for fun

Leave the birds alone. Get rid of the course.

    Mt. Barker that is.

Somehow came across this brief drone flyover of our beloved Highercombe GC

Thought it might wet the appetite for some more goat herding, love how one of the feature fly overs is a dam

Went past there a few times last Sunday, one of the transit stages went right past it travelling between special stages for the rally I was competing in. Saw a few people plodding around there in the rain - they're welcome to it and that goes for when it is dry too!

The location and 'serenity' (The Castle) of the place is impressive. I would love to move up to Houghton it is such a beautiful spot. Sadly the course just doesn't deliver in so many ways

Reminds me a bit of Belair Country Club

Yeah I honestly didn't mind Highercombe - sure, it had some problems, but I still enjoyed the day. I'd go back. Great location/scenery.

Maybe we should go there before it's sold and goes to pot.

    Second thoughts... maybe not.

This will end up as housing, sure as.

No one buys a Golf Course to make money.
As the saying goes. How do you make a small fortune from a Golf Course?.........Start with a large fortune

Another S.A Golf Course soon be be gone forever.
Not a great area for Golf Courses up that way.
Handorf gone for housing many years ago.
Balair Park let go a few years ago.
Constant rumors and pressure on Mt Barker to make way for housing.

Yes, it's Stirling. Only course (that I know of), that allows people to use their 4WDs on the course as golf carts.

How sandy is the base there? could be good land for a white grape farm and perhaps some oak trees to give truffles a go (we are apparently close to yielding them for the first time in SA)

Not sure you can save that course without significant investment, you would be better off purchasing Tanunda

It is clay - although the 5th hole soil wasn't too bad.

    It was called Mt Lofty.

The financial problems have been there for 15 years.
We discussed merger opportunities there at the time, but Mt Lofty weren't interested (and I don't know whether our membership would have accepted it either).
The 'value' of the club has been in decline.

It is where Adam Scott's parents both played their initial golf.

It was originally a 9 hole course, built for summer play by members from the Adelaide sandbelt, and extended subsequently (pre 1970, I don't know when). Holes 9 through 17 are the 'less old' holes.

In the Radvertiser today, "New housing is proposed at a golf course in Woodcroft under plans being developed by the Thaxted Park Golf Club.
The club is proposing to sell off the 17th and 18th fairways to be developed into a housing estate due to it experiencing financial difficulties.

About 40 new homes would be built, with access from Morningside Drive, which is currently a cul-de-sac.

The club intends to use part of the sale money to purchase land on Kellys Rd - which backs on to a rural area without any existing housing - to relocate the 17th and 18th holes."

Oh dear, the member(s) that were flush with money that threw sh!t loads at the place must have run out of $ or have finally realised what a bad investment that was and wont continue to do so.
Not sure why the club would bother to try and buy other land and build another 2 holes to replace the others. The must have 18 holes obsession is an outdated idea.
They would be much better off chopping the place up and make 9 really good holes rather than a hand full (this might be generous by me) of good ones and rest ordinary then sell off the rest for housing. Running costs for their long term survival maintaining 9 really good holes would be much less.

Where all the houses are alongside the 18th used to be the driving range.
10 years ago they were going to sell the land left side the old 5th down the hill where the nursery was.
Club for 30 years has been run by f**kwits. Still is.

Then around 5-6 years ago they sold off half of the car park for 3 building plots - we looked at them when we last moved but decided they were too close to the course for comfort! JasonB helped prove the point on Sunday when he was up against the front garden wall of one of them!

    Gees that's harsh.
In fairness to Sandy Creek it's only been that case for roughly the last 10yrs.
Thaxted has been on life support for a long time time now.
9 really good holes and sell off the not required land is really the only option for long term survival. Have 2 different completely different tee blocks to change up the angles and yardage if boredom of the same is the worry.
