Default query on epoxying heads to shfats

So i've been doing this for about a year plus. my practice is always to fill the hosel with epoxy all the way up to the brim. then applying some on the shaft. then put the 2 together

needless to say, the shaft always ends up displacing the excess epoxy from the hosel, which is (i) a bit of a waste of epoxy and (ii) quite messy.

i'm just wondering if there is really a need to fill up the hosel to the brim with epoxy, or whether some of you actually put less into the hosel?

That's way too much epoxy. Just enough to coat the inside of the hosel is enough.

It can be quite surprising how little you need.

A thin smear inside the hosel and same on the shaft is enough.

With that much your pushing it to set the shaft all the way in and your clean up is way messier than it needs to be.

ah i see....how silly of me.

what do you guys use to smear the epoxy in the hosel? i know that many clubfitters use ice cream sticks. but from your experience, what's the best tool for the job?

    thanks for all your responses!
