Has anyone else been trying these??
I have been a longtime lover of the Z-Star (black numbers) ball. Most of all I like the way it just sticks on the greens.
Some of the pro's at our course are Srixon guys so I have had cheap access to the red numbered XV balls they use. I hit these longer with my driver by 10-12m compared to the black ones but I did not like how they took a hard bounce on the green for me and especially did not like putting with them, they felt like a rock.
Anyway Drummonds gave me some samples of the new 2015 models so I took them out these last 2 last weeks and gave them a try. I was not expecting much difference but I found them very different to last years models.
The Z-Star is like hitting mush. It just feels so much softer off the driver. I reckon I lose 10m+ off the driver but I am 1/2 a club longer with the irons, go figure. Where I loved the old Z-star to putt this new one is horrible, way too soft.
The XV however was a revelation. It has a nice hard feel off the driver, is plenty long and I still get a bit extra off my mid/long irons. Short irons are exactly where I like them with the 52* being spot on 100m. Where the old XV would hit and bounce a few times before stopping for me this new one seems to stop nearly as quickly as the old Z-Star, maybe 1/2 a bounce further. They are easy to chip and stop, and putting is really nice.
I don't know what they did with the new surface to make it last longer but I got 3 rounds out the last XV I used even though it was in probably 6-8 bunkers and hit a few trees!
Anyway, just some feedback. I really like the XV, even though they say it's for faster swings, I am only 100MPH with my driver and around 84 with 6 iron, these still work great for me...!
