OK, I have booked us into the 7.12am time slot. Puts us in front of the herd, and nothing in front of us for several holes currently. Might have another player, have booked all 4 spots, so a spare as well.

Must do the write up on the last comp round (5/12).
It was a mixed round on Wednesday. I spent my handicap on the front nine and then hit my straps towards the turn and brought it home pretty solidly.

The G30 LS went pretty well, very forgiving and straight, and reasonably long. But still not as long as a few others.

The CB3s continue to be my go to set at present, love the Matrix shafts. And go heavy and hefty!

The FL Fairway goes pretty well. A tad more hook prone than the Launcher, but mostly good results so far. Works well both off the tee, and off the deck.

I overlooked writing up this round and it is only a dull memory now. I scored better than the previous round, but staggered home with a couple of silly doubles that spoilt the result.

The G30 LS went OK, but not a great fan of the tour shaft so far.

Very solid golf yesterday for 39 points, and I left lots out there.

The Cleveland driver is an interesting story. I picked it up cheap recently, with some other purchases off another lefty ho on the bay. I love the look of original Classic drivers and have a few of them, but I have never tried the 270 with the light weight shaft. I went to put it in the bag for its 1st run. I wanted to change the grip, so decided to check the club at the same time. Hmmm, it had been shortened an inch, and the SW was C4! So I installed an extension, and it was still light at C8/9. So I applied some (lots of!) lead tape (just under leading edge) and got it up to D2. These are supposed to be D5 from the factory, but it is a false reading because they use a light weight grip to get it there.

So out in the field, the shaft was a noodle, lightweight plus length plus extra head weight and this was soft as. But it worked really well, as long I didn't try and pummel it. So it was smooth swings and middle of the fairway with mostly baby draws all day. The only time I missed was when I pushed one slightly and left it straight left. 79% FIR told the story, and the misses were marginal and still in play. It wasn't particularly long, though quite adequate, and distance was consistent and tight.

I also love the look of the Classic XL 3 wood, except that the face is closed slightly, and it is potentially a hook machine if you aren't careful. The face is hot and I hit some great shots with it.

I am now really loving the 588TTs. Rebuilding them MOI matched has transformed them from one of my least favorite sets. I picked up a 3 iron from GCO the other day and matched it as well, and it is a real weapon. The 588s are rivaling the CB3s as my go to irons. I have even added the PW to the bag and I was middling it all day, and the slightly stronger loft (44* vs 46*) worked well to.

Probably my only bad selection decision was putting the Spider S in the bag. Nothing wrong with the club at all, but the greens were still slowish and I struggled to get the ball to the hole with 2.5* loft. I should have stuck to the Kombi.

My next comp round is not till Christmas Eve. I will try to Moi Match another set by then!

I haven't recorded the last few outings. Initially because they weren't planned to be comp rounds, but turned into them. And secondly, because I developed a case of the hooks, that I am struggling to shake and the golf was mostly a struggle. The first round was at Brookwater, I started birdie, wipe from the centre of the fairway after hooking an iron into the boondah!, birdie, wipe........ you get the jist! Anyway nothing worthwhile to report on the equipment front, not enough decent swings to make any conclusions!

Yesterday I played in the Bits/Benno NY classic at Carbrook, in the Sharklake Challenge. The hooks hadn't disappeared unfortunately, but I somehow managed to put a scrambling round together of 83/73 to finish T5.

    Bag was as follows;

Driver: Ping G30 LS with PL Blue Reg
    Fairway: Cleveland Launcher 3 Wood
Hybrid: Adams 9031 Super Hybrid 18*
    Irons: Ping G10 3-PW
    Wedges: Yururi 53* & 61*
    Putter: Odyssey Versa #7
    Ball: Srixon Q Star

I barely hit a drive all day, but somehow mostly kept the ball away from major trouble. I think the combo of the LS and the Q Star helped a little to negate side spin, but it was still a struggle. I did finish with the ball I started with, and that was some achievement!

The front nine was really solid golf to finish 3 over par. The G10s were very good, albeit I did struggle to club them right as I was hitting them so far. I had MOI matched them earlier in the week when they arrived, and they were great right through the bag.

The wedges were their usual solid self, and I find the G10 PW easy to use. The only issue was distance control on the slick, hard greens in the wind.

It was onto the bogey train on the back nine, and I just couldn't get off. I made a lot of clutch putts and managed to keep it to nothing worse on all but one hole, the 17th, were my par chip lipped out and I somehow missed the putt coming back.

Out in 38, back in 45, but it was one of the best 45s I have put together, given I just wasn't getting off the tee at all. I really need to get to a range and work it out. But that isn't going to happen before my next few rounds!

I do, but I would have to literally dig it out (of the centre of the club pile) to use it. But no Duckbill either, so I would still fall short.

Some very solid golf yesterday, and could have been so much better. My biggest issue was distance control. I was hitting the Bio Cells too far! and struggled to club them.

The Fly Z went well. I finally managed to shake the hooks. My only residual issue was re-calibrating my aim. I got it mostly right, but hit a few straight left. They were mostly coming out of the middle though, with good length.

The Bio Cells were sensational, it was only the user that struggled a little to control them. I MOI matched them earlier in the week and it was another transformation. I hit 14/18 GIR, but more than half of those approaches were well long, leaving me monster putts back. I did very well to 2 putt so many of them (only 1 x 3 stab).

I had sort of forgotten how much I like the Baffler Pros, one of the great hybrids ever!

The Versa went very well again. But whereas I managed to get around in 28 putts at Carbrook, it was 35 today. A combination of lots of long 1st putts, and grainier greens. Reddie Bay greens were actually the best they have been in quite while, but Carbrook greens are just pure in comparison and a pleasure to putt on, albeit scary quicker.

I put a DT solo into play on the front nine, in case the hooks were still there. They thankfully weren't, but I was struggling with distance control as mentioned. And I wasn't getting the usual stop on the greens. I put a TM TP into play on the back, hoping for some more check, which I did get a little of. But the greens were harder, and more unreceptive than usual. And I still struggled with distance control.

Actually quite glad to read some of your observations there Dave.

I also struggled to hold some greens there yesterday and thought it was just me. On 14 I stuck a 9 iron between flag and front of green and it just kept going off the back edge!! And its a long way to the back of that green. Same on 3 despite that being all uphill. Then rolled my chip almost off the front

    Golf, eh?

It will be sloppy conditions today, so no great expectations. A bit of experimenting with the irons.

    Today's selection;

Hybrid: Adams Black 9021 18*, Cleveland Classic 20.5*

Cobra hasn't made oversize since the 90's. S3 Max are shovels, SGIs. Current equivalent is probably the Fly XL/Hybrids.
