Thread: Launch Monitor

  1. #1

    Default Launch Monitor

Golfbox is having a sale on the SureShot Launch Monitor.
Just out of curiosity if anyone currently have one and find it useful.
Don't have to be the SureShot brand, any launch monitor in general.
And have you found it helpful in improving your game.

Oh, if there is a thread already about this please direct me to it. Did
a general search but didn't find any title that was specific about them.

    Cheers.

Had a look at the Ernest Sports ES models at a recent demo day, pretty impressive for the $$$.

IF it was accurate it would be really good for range sessions to gap the bag out for distances. Knowing what each iron flies would be great info and getting the wedges dialed in!

    Exactly.

They are brilliant for this. I have a portable one of a different brand and it is used often for exactly this purpose.

They do eat the batteries though. So but a few extra.

That was my reason for looking at them. Have a swing analyser and a hitting net so was thinking of adding it to get more information.

I have been thinking about the SureShot one for a while and got even more interested when I saw they're sub 300 bills now. Trouble is I want something that will also work hitting into a net as I'm planning on setting one up at home and don't get to the range much. I'm guessing you would still get info on face angle/speed etc just not distance/accuracy numbers? Is there a model that would be better for net/indoor use?

Sureshot works for net. Will give you distance numbers as well. It doesn't have launch angle or spin numbers though.

I have the Voice Caddie and is great. We compared to Trackman for speeds and GPS on course for distances and the numbers are very close.

How far back does the device need to be when belting balls into a net?

I have the Optishot. Its not to bad as long as you set your clubs up in it. Not the best outside in sun light.

Get instant and detailed feedback on:

    • Club head speed +/-2.0 MPH
    • Face angle +/-1.5
    • Swing path +/-1.9
    • Distance traveled
    • Face contact
    • Swing tempo
    • Shot shape

These are the same guys that do the Skypro, and it looks like they are making the same mistake by not releasing it for Android. Pretty silly cutting out a lot of there potential market, or for 12+ months like with the Skypro

Sureshot LM looks like it is a rebranded Voice Caddie SC100.

The Ernest E14 sounds like very good value for a more featured LM. The reviews I have read do say it is quite fiddley to set up though, and you need to know how to fine tune the set up to get correct launch and spin numbers.

The Ernest ES14 seems to only be accurate if the ball flies straight, no good for left and right flight, so not very good to use with a net.

They don't seem to care that most people don't have an apple device.

A bit off topic, but the launch monitors at golf world are horribly inaccurate.
They use the golf achiever one....

I was getting like 9 launch and 4000+ spin. Ball was still flying 250y...don't know how that would be possible.

They are useless, they can't measure spin, it is a guess using the club details entered, you even have to tell what height tee you used. POS

I picked up one of these on a whim. Only shows swing speed and ball speed (and calculates carry distance), but I've actually had a fair bit of fun in the nets trying it out. It seems to be quite accurate - my swing speed has been measured a few times with various launch monitors at consistently around 100-105 mph, and the Sureshot seems to fit right into that. At the beginning of a session, the swing speed is around 95mph, and it then increases up appropriately as I warm up.

The ball speed also seems fairly accurate - mishits are shown as being lower in ball speed while maintaining the same swing speed. Not perfect of course - I nearly topped one and it still evidently carried 210 yards, but in general it was pretty good. A few deliberate "toes" and "heels" resulted in substantially reduced ball speeds.

If you are looking for a cheap launch monitor that only does swing and ball speed, this is pretty good for $150.
