Default List of Brisbane area OPEN days and comps to compile

as a sideline to having to contact every golf club in australia...(don't ask), i was compiling a list of the local ones that have regular Open days.

quite a few clubs have them scattered sporadically throughout their calendars but i've got a short starter of open days and 'blue' marker comps.

As a resource for the Ozgolf members, i'd like to extend it and possibly have a permanent post for it so people can check if the 'sickies' might mesh nicely with a cheap comp day out.

I have more Bris area club to ring yet but here's the stuff so far:

    Bribie Island
    Every 1st Wednesday - Open
    Every Sunday - Open $12.50

    Gold Coast Burleigh golf Club
    Monster Mondays
    16th August
    20th September $27.00

    Windaroo
Wednesday and Saturday $25.00 + balls

    Virginia
    Second Tuesday monthly -Xerox $20.00

    Carbrook
    Shark Lake Challenge
    Last Wednesday of the Month

    City
Friday Challenge (woomba guys, i can't remember cost!)

    Gailes
    Every Sunday - Open $8.80
    Dingo Hill Testes Blaster $15
    Every second Friday Monthly

    ---------
if you know a regular day your club has a comp post it here and i'll get compilin'

g69, i assume your innate role as the kindly bigbumshort spectre of open days will yield a plethora of track info....

Macca, I started trying to compile one of these lists over on that "other" forum. Plenty of info should be held in the first post of the thread "Brisbane Open Comps", I think it was called. I might have discovered a few more since then.

When this list gets itself new finished, how about editing the first post to contain all the info then we'll make it sticky. Or just start a new thread and make it sticky. That way it'll be accessable when needed.

Maybe some of the guys south of the border would like to do the same thing.

We should put it in the ozgolf days section; what do ya's think??

twas the plan that or bash it into webpage and just have the URL as sticky in the ozgolf day section.

i wasn't sure what else could be done with the phpBB app, maybe even a link like Chat?

Andy's list is sweeet, what i envisaged..thought someone would have gotten to this before me

Had it compiled for my old public service days. Thought it was better to sort into days rather than clubs.

Ahhhh, flex days, how I miss thee.

What are you like at putting databases online chief?

The NSWGA website has a searchable database, enter the day of the week you would like to play, it will show you the courses with open days. Problem is that it doesn't look like it's been updated since 1965.

Get all of this info, put it into a dodgy Excel spreadsheet and import it into a db format. As much as i understand what's needed, i've done nuffink like this before - while it can't be that hard, i should really do my wedding website before my missus see's me doing golf databases

    Mcleod, what a fantastic idea.
Now just what we need is 100 pages to sort through to find the good oil.
I guess a sticky would have to do, but then we have to rely on one person to maintain it , either way its a little innefficient.

OR> we could harness the power of phpBB

A new Forum Category - Golf Course Open Days.
    - Begin a new thread, one for each Golf Course, naming convention for the title.
    - Whomever starts the thread maintains the entry for his course for ever. Use a format convention to maintain integrity of the info.
    - The Forum is locked out for replies, except by Mods admin (this configured by administrator control panel)

    OR
as for a database load up a Mambo site ( www.mamboserver.com ) and each entry takes the form of a News article. This article can be posted by anybody, can be categorized and is searchable within the site.
I have just started up 3 sites with Mambo, piece of cake, no more difficult than setting up phpBB.
go to www.theblake.net and click on News to get an idea of how the database can be listed.

Sounds like you got a good deal, Pete.

They have a Back Marker comp on the third Wednesday of every month. $75 from memory. Seems to have open comps on Wednesdays, Sundays and most Saturdays too.
The Lady Open is on the first Tuesday of each month.
They have a calendar here: http://www.northlakesgolfclub.com.au/default.asp?p=33
