    Unhappy Keza has the Shanks....

So after playing in the Trainee Pro am on Monday and today at Royal Queensland and having 2 magnificent scores (if I was a batter on the Aussie Cricket Squad), I am ashamed to say that I have a dreaded case of the Shankarooneys.... In 2 rounds I have had about 9 shanks.... with all sorts of clubs, from SW to 4iron....

I think it comes from standing a bit close to the ball and getting a bit quick...

Just wanted to share my greif......

    Cheers

    Keza

Did this problem exist before you played Iain? Could be something behind that.

Unless you are shanking your driver (At one point there was nothing I couldn't shank - maybe even jono's wedge) I wouldn't worry too much.

I take that back, if you are worried see a pro straight away, one visit fixed me right up.

Keza, I sometimes shank due to coming too far from the inside, working the wrists too late with the inside out swing path. Where are your divots pointing ?? Think more about the start of the downswing, is it starting inside or dropping at the top throwing you off plane ??

    Something to consider anyway.

or, you can use Jono's wedge, it worked for him try his putter and balls too whilst you're at it

Keza - not sure what tips you've had so far, but this is the one that seems to have fixed me when i suffered about 18 months ago.. when i struggled, i was taking monster chunks of turf too.

Just train yourself to take away with the left hand.

Keza, anybody can hit the ball with that huge wide club face, but you got to be really skilled to hit the ball with that narrow little hosel.

Keza, I used to suffer from the shanks on a regular basis and I still get the occasional one here and there. Mine were caused by my swing not being on the same plane.

I would take the club way back on the inside which meant I had a lot of trouble getting the club back to square at impact. The result was either a shank or a snap hook The hook came from my hands flipping at impact.

I saw a good pro and he got me swinging on the same plane by doing certain drills.
One of those drills which helped me more than any other was the baseball swing.
What I mean by that is pick the club up to about waist height, then swing the club flat like you are trying to hit a baseball.
With this drill, let the momentum of your arms pull your body through the impact zone.

Try 3 or 4 swings at waist height before each shot to ingrain the feel to muscle memory.
There are a few other things you can try but give this a go first
