Default 2015 VIC Champs - Feb 5-9 official thread

Well ladies and gents, its the moment you've all been waiting for...

Thur & Sun night accomm: As usual we will be staying at the magnificent Chateau de Andigold, the Parkview Hotel, 562 St Kilda Rd. Options include 4 to a room, 2 to a room and the "Solarman single". Approx $60 per night.
Fri & Sat night accomm: BayPlay Lodge and Cottage, Blairgowrie. We have the lodge and Cottage, sleeping around 42 (I think, will confirm). We will have the whole complex to ourselves, pool included. Cost approx $70 a head per night, but the more we get the cheaper it becomes for everyone.

Now, the info you really care about:

Thurs golf: We head back to the #18 ranked course in Australia, Woodlands Golf Club. As per last year, tee-off will be shotgun start from around 4.00PM. Cost of $80 per head.
Friday golf: The Uncivil War III will be held at the venue of the 2014 Handa Australian Womens Open, and #11 ranked course in Aus, Victoria Golf Club. Cost is confirmed at $225 and includes a light lunch prior and drinks and a BBQ dinner after the match. Field is not limited. Be there before 11:00 am for team photos and lunch.
Sat golf: You loved it in 2013, so we had to put it back in the rota. St Andrews Beach, ranked #21 in Aus. We have 36 spots booked and 13 carts. $71 per walker, $89 per Carter. Tee off from 12:27pm.
Sun golf: The beautiful and picturesque RACV Cape Schanck Resort, for the great price of $45 for walkers and $68 for Carters. Again, 32 spots and 11 carts booked. Tee off from 8:12AM - 9:08AM. $5 pull carts available for hire.
Mon golf: We head back to the "mudbelt", but next door to last years venue. La Trobe GC. $50 a head, and tee-off from 8AM.

As per usual, please let me know in the thread what days you will be attending, what nights accommodation you will be needing and whether you need a cart for Saturday & Sunday.

More info will be posted as it comes to hand.

Have another crack at 13th-Barwon Heads?

That said, I think you could do a bit of a rotation around the peninsula tracks and everybody would be happy.

Failing that, we could throw Eagle Ridge into the mix. I wouldn't notice the difference, but I'm betting whoever gets to play with Bruce will be in for an entertaining day.

13th beach has signed on for the ladies amateur or something that time for the next however many years I thought. Barwon Heads we can't get a big enough group on.

I enjoyed Cape Schank, would love to play it again when my form is better, probably about 2030. You didn't like it oldracer?

I believe we have zero chance of getting a group our size onto the National - otherwise it would be awesome.

I would happily play Cape Schanck again, even if I struggled this year. The other Moonah course is still Vic Champs virgin territory too. I hear it's stupid hard though. My only recollection is gazing across to one of the fairways from the clubhouse and seeing a minefield of bunkers and being very afraid.

What else? Flinders, Devilbend, Sorrento. Don't know anything about those tracks. We could go with Moonah Stupid/Eagle Ridge and give many people two courses they haven't played before.

As much as I would LOVE to get you to pile in and play Port Fairy (and see my name on the club champs honour board), there's no way 30 blokes are making the 4 hour trek there. Just won't happen.

Barwon Heads only allow you to play between 7-8 on a Sunday, unless you stay on course. And accomm isn't expensive, but it ain't cheap either. If we were headed down that way it would probably have to be the two 13th beach courses, or Torquay sands (Appleby design, I think? Maybe he just endorsed it?).

I'm still liking the Peninsula GC double next year, but easily bow to public pressure , so we'll get the organising committee on to it.

Maybe we could play Sanctuary Lakes on the Thursday or Monday to associate a bit more of a linksy feel, and a Growling Frog or Gardiners Run for something different too, so 3 sandbelt and 2 crap resorty / linksy etc.

Anyway, we'll see what transpires with our plans to play RM East on the Friday, and build from there. Thanks for all the suggestions though, keep em coming!

Yeah, that's one that's been in and out of the rota pretty much all 3 champs. We'll get on there eventually!

Holes 8-10 being redone now as they are having the 9th converted into 300 metre driving range, full on short game facilities, which is on top of indoor studio they have already.

Fairways are pure,Sand belt like, and greens are A1...A lot closer to Andigolds than Growling Frog,I'd seriously think of that one.15 minutes from Melbourne Airport to for guys flying into their!

If we were playing Growling Frog, you could go another 10 minutes out and play the new Mandalay Beveridge. Although I would just continue up the highway and go home and leave you to it...
